Ok guys, I just want to make sure, for those people who got their downclocking issues fixed, this is what is happening, as shima said above, the fans just kick up in high gear...
Is this what suppose to happen? Just the fans go on full blast and the temperature is inconsistent but lower than 90 degrees C?
Can you guys tell me if this is how a normal system would perform? And could this quick fix not be good for the system since it makes the temp go up and down all the time?
-
Will, i have my MBP that reach 90 to 95 then fan kick full speed to reduce it to 70s. so this is normal.
the m15x temp will not go up and down when it first reach 87 and fan kick in. it will stay at 80 to 81 for hours for me. -
whats MRP? So what shima explained above it totally normal now for a ntoebook and healthy? please let me knwoa s I am so clsoe to ordering
-
It's MBP not MRP, that's MacBook Pro.

the m15x temp will not go up and down when it first reach 87 and fan kick in. it will stay at 80 to 81 for hours for me. <-------- Some people on the m15x owners lounge said their temp fluctuates from 70ish- 90ish - 80ish and then back to 70-90 again then back to 80. Some said it fluctuates every 15 minutes, some says every 45 minutes and some says every houros so.. now is this normal for a computer? it seems like its too inconsistence and that its not a real fix?
can I get more feedback please, thanks -

Well i cant provide any feedback on the m15x since i dont own one but i would like you to know that keep this thing in mind that you're ordering an ALIENWARE. There's a big possibility that your laptop might not experience all these issues that other people on this forum are having or it just gets more problems than everyones laptop over here combined. Its AW mate just keep your fingers crossed and press the order button and hope for the best
. Thats what i did and mine turned out to be fine

With my review unit I had the x29b BIOS installed - the temperatures went up to 87*C and then the fans kicked in full blast, brought them down to the mid-70s. No underclocking. I did not get a chance to test the non-beta x30 but what the quoted post says in post #1 is basically the same thing mine was doing.

But is what was happening in shimas case and your case and as well as everyone else normal and healthy for a notebook? I'm not experianced with notebooks and such so I was just worried that the temperature jumping up and down eery few minutes or every hour doesn't sound so healthy for the laptop to me.
Will the notebook not last longer because of this inconsistency? will it break earlier because of the insufficent cooling features will wear and tear it even faster?
Thanks -
I don't have my m15x yet, but, I suppose you can run on integrated-graphics more often if you don't need the power of the m8800, instead of keeping it on full-power all the time. Maybe this will prolong the life of the lappy. I don't know...

shima just reported that he, unfortunately, is still having the downclock problem! Quite sad...

If u ask me to run ATI I will tell ya mine too will be like post #1. U will only realize it when u play intense games that swing from both extreme end of the temp. UP and down and up in less than a min. Downclock will happen. Some scene will not downclock cause the temp is constant & fan will keep pushing. Just like people will not detect a downclock when they run ATI tool. Its a constant temp.
U can actually stop the downclock if u play at ambient temp 15C (the lower the better). I sometimes wear a jacket and play important matches. My spouse is a bit concern that I am getting crazy lately. Anyway I told her not for long as I am getting dell soon. I am already prepared to surrender $ 483 of re-stocking fees.
Steve dun ask me to send any more mails cause i have sent enuff- GO check my record. From pages of log to high resolution pic. I will also not be surprise if the replacement set comes in and downclock. And if your CS tell me they never heard of it I wont blame them either. I am done with AW. Its not a bad deal for renting one of the most beautiful machine for 1 month. I still win -
rexibaby987, it wasn't that I was not looking for the downclock, because I was. Everytime I'd start a game, I'd run Rivatuner monitoring and ALT-TAB to check temps after every 15-30 mins. Prior to this past weekend, it was not downclocking under any circumstance with the x30 bios because the GPU wasn't downclocking under 90 degrees. Furmark, ATI Tool, Crysis, CoD4, none of these were causing a downclock.
And suddenly under CoD4 this past weekend, my card is downclocking at 83-85 degrees.
So to summarize, it wasn't that I suddenly "realized" that it's downclocking - I'm not that ignorant. It suddenly happened. -
. I am actually in the same boat as you if u check my post. I reported all was fine after the bios upgrade and it took me more than a week b4 I too realize I am downclocking.
We all got this virus. -
Hehe, it's cool. What's odd about this whole thing is this: it seems that if it downclocks once, just once at under the temp threshold of the fan speed increase (86-87), it will repeatedly downclock at the same temps - in my case, 83 to 85 degs - and will not go back to the 90 deg behavior it was showing before the first instance.

I think the problem is not the temperature of the graphic card, I think it is the amount of heat in the graphic card area. For example when not gaming try to block the fans, you will reach a 100 or maybe more (I tried it) it didn't downclock (I reached 101 deg C when I blocked them).
I played TF2 I reached 93 deg C every 5 minutes the fan seemed to have the heat under control and took the temp back to 88 deg C (old BIOS) and NO DOWNCLOCK. With new BIOS it doesn't go above 87 deg C. Summary: Goes up to 93 and then back to 88 with No problems
I played COD4 only with new BIOS, the temp reached 90 deg C and I downclocked. The difference between the graphs that I saw is the fan was unable to take the temperature down even at high gear in COD4, the graph is just increasing towards 90's nothing is taking it down and then it downclocks. Summary: Goes up constantly to 90, fan on high gear and temp is still raising, (nothing can take it down) ----> it downclocks. -
well, i have the x29 bios and i have downclocking w/ crysis when the laptop is propped up in the back 1/2 inch. when flat on a surface, i've played for around 1.5 hrs w/ no problems. each time the temps reach around 87, the fans kick in and everything works fine. however, I've never tested much longer than 1.5 hrs.
the only other game i have is orange box... have NEVER had any downclocking w/ halflife2 or tf2, propped up or not. i don't think source engine games are harsh enough on the gpu... my temps dont go much higher than 80.
as with others, I've found that ATI tool is not 'real life' stressful enough to trigger downclocking.
mag could be on to something as it may be the temps of the 'gpu area' which cause the downclocking. that may be why i downclock when I prop up the back (when I prop up i downclock at around 85/86c which is before the fans kick in).
im gonna download COD4 tonight and give it a shot... all in the name of research =) -
I will consider this as Downclock. I did sent evidence to critical team b4 and they say this should not be happening be it 1/3 inch or 2 inch. In real world usage not many traveler have the flat desk luxury. Anyway it doesnt matter cause if u are on batt, IT DOWNCLOCK ANYWAY...
-
i agree... *sigh* the lappy still has the problem.
If it is only downclocking when propped up, i think i'll just live with it. That's why i want to test COD4. if it performs w/out downclocking (flat) i think im going to just keep it.
Considering i've been happily gaming for the past few weeks w/ no downclocking w/ crysis or tf2, its just an added hassle to have to send it back and stuff.
i admit, I'm losing my will to fight. -
guys, plese go and read the post I've made about voicing our problems and please send a pm to Stone with the details of your problem! We can forward this to a high impact tech website that will expose AW's problem with the M15x and force them into take real actions to fix everyone's problems! I don't have the laptop yet, but I really feel frustrated for all of you!
Please, do not stop fighting... Let's do it together and with real strenght, to make sure you are all heard and AW gets what they deserve (a real image of what their new "amazing" laptop is) and they are forced into take action!
Please... let's get united and strike hard!!! -
From my experience I can tell that the problem is not what temperature the graphic card is reaching, it is mainly the amount of heat in the graphic card area. As I said before it used to reach 93 deg C but the fan was cooling the card, that's why it didn't downclock. On the other side in COD4 the temp is going up even when the fans are constantly on high gear, as it reaches 89 or 90 it downclocks.
