Luckily I am working from home today, which my T9900 just so happened to be delivered. I of course dropped work to install it, it was amazingly simple. It all came apart and went right back together easier than a desktop would have.
I took lots of pictures and could do a write up if you guys like. But the long of the short of it, I now have a T9900 running at 3.33gz thanks to SETFsb, about a 33% increase in speed over my T9400. My temps, even overclocked, have actually gone down thanks to the thermal compound I used(OCZ Freeze), thanks for the recommendation Rob41. Max temp has dropped about 15 degrees C, idle about 5-6 degrees.
I would also like to take this time to HIGHLY recommend the ebay seller computerupgradekings. I bought the processor on a Friday, he shipped it out Saturday, and I recieved it today(Monday). Everything was done quickly, and as expected.

Nice, sounds good.
-
Wow,
Sounds like a great set-up now!
The OCZ Freeze does work very well.
Congrats on the upgrade man! -
A how-to guide is always handy! =p
-
Sounds awesome. Rob should I get ocz freeze thermal paste for my t9900 upgrade in my m17x. That the best stuff?
-
With OCZ Freeze, there is no curing time and there is no conductivity.
IMO, it's the best I have used and I highly recommend it.
As always, follow the instructions and apply a drop the size of a grain of rice. More isn't better with thermal compound. -
Got a link to the cheapest retailler of it?

A question about temps. Is ACPI and actual temp reading for something or just something to help the OS/bios regulate the fans ?
Cause my ACPI temps go up to 75-80c but cpu temps cap at 66c. And ACPI temps go up when i stress the cpu without stressing the GPU's so i guess it has nothing to do with gpu's temps. -
I don't know exactly where the temp diode for the ACPI is located, but on all my rigs, the ACPI tends to be higher than the CPU temps.
I too find that it's not anything to do with the GPU's.
Right now I've got:
ACPI=51C
Core 1 and 2=39C
GPU 1=51C
GPU 2=48C -
Grats Zevo. Now overclock it with SetFSB and see how high it goes.
-
I already did overclock it to 3.33gz. The ram is being overclocked though with the FSB, so right now my 1066mz ram is running at 1158, that is my concern if I go higher.
-
Caught me I just skimmed.
-
How much do you guys think the ram can take? When I used to play around with my desktop I never clocked the ram, would just change the ratio so it matched the FSB as close as I could to its factory speed.
-
-
i took my t9400 from 2.53 to 3.08
-
-
Actually, using a program called Setsfb, you are increasing the speed of the entire front side bus.
That increases the clocks of the processor and the Ram as well. -
^^^
Exactly what he said, increasing the FSB will put the CPU clock and RAM clock higher. -
use memset to change stuff about the ram
-
The other good thermal compound is Artic Silver5 Alot of people who overclock use it. People who have desktop and got to 3.8ghz and 4ghz in desktops.
-
Now all we need is someone to get a pair of 4850/60s or something and try them.

Could you please post a CPUZ screenshot here? I am planning to buy a T9900 from the same seller and I am wondering the stepping and the revisions of those CPUs..
Thanks in advance..
