press the print screen button on your keyboard (key present next to F12), open any paint or word application and paste it......simple.

One of these works on most notebooks.

Prnt Scrn or Fn + Prnt Scrn should capture the whole screen.

Alt + Prnt Scrn or Alt + Fn + Prnt Scrn should capture the active window.

Then past into a graphics application.

I use Gadwin Printscreen 4.4, as you can choose your format ahead of time, and they're automatically saved to the destination of your choice. It has .bmp, .jpg, .gif, .png, and .tif as options. You can also set it to automatically resize your images on capture.

Just make sure you turn off 'Initial delay', 'Show notification messages', and image previews, but leave a check next to 'Hide icon while capturing'.

The copy -> paste into paint method is outdated and inefficient.

You should try Gadwins printscreen. It really is nice and you can choose to capture the current open window or the whole screen. You can also choose what format like bmp or jpg and you can choose what destination folder you want to use.

EDIT: Just used it to capture my desktop

The snipping tool is great in vista HP or ultimate. Otherwise, i also think Gadwins print screen is good for XP or vista basic. I like Gadwins alot.

I've got Vista 64bit Home premium and just don't care for the snipping tool. Gadwins allows you to configure so much more. IMAO :D

Yup, you sure can configure Gadwins, and that is why I like it so much too. Anyone who hasn't tried it yet, I recommend giving it a try. After it is configured how you want it, it is very easy.

There are some members of my family that need/want simplicity, which means snipping tool for them. Its on most of the current vista computers without downloading anything. Not everyone likes toying with new programs.
