no,i have got the respawn dvd. but why should i have to do this. ill let them do it remotely when its up and running again.
at the moment i honestly have got no interest in it anymore. i paid over £2000/$4000 for a laptop that is meant to be the dogs borroks and at the moment its not. have already re loaded the drivers for the touch keys but theve done zip.
ok, tech support here i come.
ill give it 3 days and then it goes back.

MrDJ you are absolutely right. I paid £3000 for my Voodoo Desktop but I recieved spectacular support and everything went extremely well and I even personally know the CEO (Rahul Sood) now, he even replies to my email and the company takes care of each and every customer, that is where my money went because I know loads of people will think that i 'shoudl have just built' but the point is that i dont want the hassle, and this is what we are paying for.
The M15X is the same. Why pay £2000 when we can just get a Clevo or whatever other one? because we expect better quality or better service, better exclusivity etcetc.
With £2000, we should expect NOTHING but the BEST. You shouldnt have to go through all this mess to get it working, it should work out of the box. even on a £500 Dell computer, I expect it to work out of the box.
This is ridiculous. -
Hang in there MrDJ, just give those damn alien supporters some hard time!
-
sounds like im through to pota richo. any idea how i get in contact with roswell techs.

That's an advertisement if ever I saw one.
Yeeeaahh.. You've had it what 4/5 hours. you should be flaming it playing crysis high as a kite for the next week straight, NOT already chattin to tech suppport.
Poor form Alienware, very poor. -
Kaiserphoenix Notebook Evangelist
Does the M15X play crysis on high though?
But yeah I get your point and agree whole-heartedly.
very poor -
all i can say is wow. that really sucks. and here's me ordering this laptop only after having waited ages for AW to iron out the kinks... disappointing.
-
(sorry to get slightly off topic...) -
driver download didnt work so now waiting to for tech to get bios update and then ive got to burn it to dvd.
-
yomamasfavourite Notebook Evangelist
Nb. I didn't actually mean play Crysis on high settings (though don't see why not!) Meant playing Crysis (whilst high as a kite - caffeine) hence playing all night continually for like the next week, as in he should be ENJOYING it,
not having a nightmare.
I know I'd be up with a new lappie, regardless of the fact I've exams in the morning haha.. -
Oodle-Bear Alienware Mug, Testpilot
MrDj, this may be a daft question and if so i appologize but, have you got the latest bios on your machine?
I read that some poepl had problems with the touch controls until they installed the latest bios patch...
OB -
-
she deleted some drivers and re installed them.
in total ive been on the phone to tech support for over 2 hours and ive only had the machine on for 4 hours.
problem not resolved so ive got 2 options
CANCEL OR RETURN
3-4 days to return. minimum 3 days testing, 3-4 return to me.
ARGGH!!! -
-
yomamasfavourite Notebook Evangelist
Sorry bud, seems ya got pretty rough deal - hope it works out for you, or at least you get your money back.
-
i dont see the problem a big of a deal......just reinstall fresh by yourself....make sure you have newest bio, it should take no more then 2 hours....i assume you know how to do it yourslef.
asking them to do it for you is a joke, most of those CS ppl or so call techppl, dont know anything, and this goes for all company. -
secondly, why should i. its not working properly from the of set so the only option i see is a return. -
yomamasfavourite Notebook Evangelist
Well regardless of whether someone has the knowledge of how to flash the bios or not, they shouldn't have to do it when its just been taken out of its wrapping. At least if you do decide to send back you won't get screwed with the 15% restocking fee.
-
Kaiserphoenix Notebook Evangelist
Yeah otherwise Alienware should just ship a DIY kit where we just assemble the laptop ourselves LOL
MrDJ shouldnt have to go through hell as soon as he opens up his laptop, its £2000 for chrisake. -
Last track event: Held in warehouse, consignee information incomplete / incorrect(Information of Delivery): Coventry / GB, 2008-04-21 18:15
*sniff*
Sometimes I hate living in a brand new house, all the crappy delivery companies don't know where i live! I'll give them a call in the morning. -
what next.
creative soundblaster xfi card is not working even though it lights up.
also mouse has just frozen and control-alt-delete froze.2nd time ive had to power off at the mains.
defanately going back now. -
Kaiserphoenix Notebook Evangelist
I think i am going to cancel. this is shocking to say the least.
Not only did MrDJs laptop have issues, it had a tonnes of them.
i seriously doubt AW does ANY QC on these laptops. -
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
That sucks. Maybe Alienware will offer you something so you keep it (like money or Alienware credit or something). You've spent so much money on the m15x, and should've gotten a gaming beast that works out of the box, even budget laptops don't offer these kinds of problems. Still, you should take pictures of your m15x before you return it
.
-
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
I think the problem is that Alienware is making less of a profit on their newer laptops and desktops compared to their older models because they lowered their prices to make them more competitive, but in doing so, instead of cutting the design and marketing crew (which they've probably improved to sell more, which was obviously their plan by offering cheaper laptops than they used to), they probably cut their technicians and added new technicians that cost Alienware less, but don't know what they're doing, or they just don't care as long as it gets shipped out.
-
Kaiserphoenix Notebook Evangelist
yeah I think they just fired their QC department all together.
-
My friends came couple days back (Im too much of a Sager fanboy to get it
). I think it looks great! The Smartbay battery is neat. The only problem is, after reading all these forums, we ran rivatuner in the background and we found out it downclocked while playing assassins creed
. It only does it for like a couple seconds (it looks like a heart beat in the graph), but does it repeatedly. Hopefully, the bios update will do the trick, considering he paid 3200 for it!!!
-
something very strange is going on here.
the laptop has crashed twice now. firstly everything just froze so i pressed control alt delete and that froze so i had to turn of at the mains.
re booted and tried inserting the external soundblaster card. it lit up and loaded drivers. headphones or external speakers didnt work so in frustration i pulled the card out and the cd went mad and stuck and kept jumping. mouse froze again and control alt delete done nothing. so turned of at mains again.
after re booting GUESS WHAT?
all the controls worked.volume, bluetooth, stealth were all working fine. so something has trigered them off after the second re boot. -
haha strange
I have to admit I had a couple times (on the old BIOS) where shutting down under certain power scenarios would do such things as turn off AlienFX (the USB device disables and the driver becomes lost), but then doing a certain set of other actions, involving restarting & switching batteries in and out, eventually fixed the problems. If you haven't updated to the new BIOS, I would recommend that you do. -
Kaiserphoenix Notebook Evangelist
So is everything working now? are u going to keep it?
-
Really sorry to see you're having so many problems and the tech support people weren't able to help
.
I would give it a bit longer before making the final decision to return it; afterall you've waited almost 2 months for it! -
Yo...DJ!!! Unlucky... but I do have to say, I'm sure most of your problems are software related. I wouldn't freak out because of that. True it's an expensive laptop, but if the hardware is all functional, then the software is the least of your concearns and can be easily fixed (I can do it for you... for a fee, of course!
).
-
This has been disturbing news for anyone who has ordered an m15x recently, thinking that bugs like this would have been sorted out. We really do appreciate you sharing your experience.
It seems that you have got it all working now.
Still going to return? -
Kaiserphoenix Notebook Evangelist
A fee which DJ has paid for already. He shouldnt have to pay extra to get things working regardless of whether the hardware is ok or not.
If DJ had installed games and other stuff and used it for a while, then yes, there may have been driver conflicts or whatnot. But he just opened it from the box and it wasnt working, clearly NOT what he expected. -
ive already received an email from AW with a return document and they will be contacting dhl as well. i said to her that i cant do tomorrow so it will have to be thursday at the earliest so ive got 1 day to keep an eye on it. im still not loading any software or hardware until i know its 100% so will have to wait and see.
-
Is anyone else with an m15x currently in production, or in transit to them feeling a bit concerned? ....I am.
Too late to do anything about it now. Just gonna have to keep fingers crossed this is not going to be a recurring thing. -
i might just send mine back as soon as i get it. looks like it's a dud product.
-
sorry to hear about everyone problems. I would have thought everything was fixed. I guess they spent so much time working on the downclocking they forgot about their QC
-
Kaiserphoenix Notebook Evangelist
Captain Rawley, you can always just cancel.
I am going to see how MrDjs situation turns out, and then I might just cancel and wait for the revised M15X or M17X hoping they will be far better in quality. -
-
Kaiserphoenix Notebook Evangelist
-
Not that high... I mean, beyond the downclocking issue which is now history, I haven't had a single problem with this laptop. I acknowledge there are horror stories, and he should rightfully send it in if it's broken, but sending a working computer in because others are having a bad time just doesn't make sense to me.
-
I'm with GRB mine doesn't give me any problems.
-
you're the lucky one!
-
Believe me, there are enough *ones* out there that this laptop is worth keeping (so long as yours isn't faulty too)
-
Kaiserphoenix Notebook Evangelist
yeah ur right GRB, im sorry was just being too sarcastic and frustrated since I also ordered mine a couple of days ago, I just want to recieve what I pay for. A laptop that plays games decently and wont have DC or CPU DC or melt or explode or lights not working or cracks. I dont expect anything MORE, I dont need spectacular Customer service or extra goodies or whatever, just please send me a laptop that works!
-
Cosidering the delays in production MrDJ has experienced. I think we were all happy for him to see things moving again at Alienware. Especially those of us with a particular interest, given that we are next in the queue.
I was looking forward to reading about how this was the best machine in the whole world; how stunning it looks (with pictures) and about how smooth and fast everything runs. We want to see some astonishing benchmarks, not yet another thread of the same problems.
I really do feel for you MrDJ. You must feel sick right now. -
I am sorry to read some sad stories here but mine also doesn't give me any problems.
-
I may sound like I'm on the AW payroll here, trying to salvage what remains of their positive reputation, but I'm not. I don't deny the problems, and I don't excuse AW for having them. However, I think we all must be reasonable and understand that, while these things do happen, it is best for all of us to make our own decision based on what laptop we get in the mail. Don't necessarily let someone else's bad story detract from a perfectly good computer you may have sitting in your lap.
