*SPOILER WARNING*
In case anyone is trying to decode it themselves and doesn't want it ruined, don't scroll down.
I got bored at work and spent a couple of hours decoding the message.
I will not provide the full translation here since I feel it would be kind of lame to let people who didn't do the work enter the contest. The first sentence is irrelevant anyway.
The second sentence of the secret message translates to:
"Seek out the Area-51 M15X and Area-51 M17X."
It is my assumption/belief that these are two new notebooks they are launching on the 19th, probably replacing the m5550 and m9750, respectively.
Makes perfect sense if you think about it.............M15X (15 in notebook), M17X (17 in notebook)
-
-
Good thing I just bought mine! =D Oh. Wait...
-
Crimsonman Ex NBR member
You sound very accurate. what alienware competition?
-
It's a contest to go to New York on Nov 19th for their launch event. -
Man, if they launch a new laptop to replace the 9750 I'm going to be ticked. I just got this one and want to upgrade to the 8800 cards
-
-
I'm sure we're getting a brand new 17inch notebook more of a mobile solution then a raw desktop replacement, a new 15inch to replace the M5550, a new sub 15inch that'll replace the already dead Sentia, and maybe something in the upper range thats pass the M9750 in performance like the mALX was. -
Maybe my crappy 5550 can be replaced with the new 15" notebook. I can only hope
-
Uses it everyday too for school. -
Yea, some people around here don't have problems. The thing is, I game on it sometimes for around 3 hours, and I do a lot of editing which I guess heats it up.
-
He used to raid in WoW for like hours...
Some have problems some dont. Sorry to hear yours has turned out to be junk. -
Alienware seems to either get it perfect or have a literal 50/50 shot depending on the notebook....
-
When they get it perfect, it is an awesome system. In general, when their computers work, they are awesome, and tech support usually can fix your issues with the notebook very quickly.
However, in my case, it is more a general failure in the notebook, not just 1 bad part that needs to be fixed.
They make a great 17" notebook right now...
And I agree with MJL on that one -
Alienware does not make any notebooks.
They will just choose some ODM models to re-brand... I wonder what they are going for this time.... Clevo, Arima, Compal, or maybe even Asus. -
the M9700/50 is a Arima chassis isnt it?
Also isnt HP using Arima chassis? -
Yes, the m9750 is Arma.
Not sure about HP though. -
i dont think alienware will ever choose another clevo brand again after the D900T disaster.
-
-
I don't think they did well with the D900k.... For someone who used it 16 hours a day... The thing is no better than a big paper weight... There were too many heat issues realted to the box..
I think Alienware is garbage and I personally will never buy another one..
Anytime you get a dead pixel when first booting the machine and soon as you get the box is crap....
They wouldn't even take it back without charging me 15 percent...
My choice is sager when it comes to ultra performace...
Joe -
I do not know where to start....
ONE:
If you have a dead notebook, you can put it to use for you by fixing it
...or trading it in (to a company like Eurocom) to get a new beast of a notebook... like the Clevo D900C.
TWO:
I have a D900K, I use it for 12-16 hours a day. It is as healthy as when I built it back in March 2006. There is something that most people need to be educated when purchasing a performance/gaming notebook.
I have been going of this for a while now.... most people still do not get it:
I do not like to point the finger, but it was technically your fault if your notebook dies... especially if its due to overheating.
Since gaming notebooks is still a new thing....
Most gaming notebook owners have little to no idea how to take care of their notebooks, and believe that they will just take care of themselves.
You need to be aware that with power comes the responsibility to take care of it... by:
- always making sure to use it on a clean flat, cool surface (preferably a good notebook cooler like Zalman ZM-NC1000)
- always monitor the temps (GPU and CPU) to watch for temp spikes that will indicate overheating due to clogged vents.
- every two months, you need to manually clean out the notebook's vents and fans with a flashlight, Q-tips, and compressed air (cans/compressor).. it should take about 20-30 minutes.
- and maybe you might need to re-apply thermal grease (like Arctic Silver) to the CPU and GPU if needed
If you take care of your notebook with these easy things, than it will easily last.
I have the same notebook, its as healthy as when I built it back in March 2006.
I am not going to let my investment go to waste. -
@Gophn - Yea I know they use other chassis, what I meant is that for the M9750, I really haven't seen a notebook in the same chassis that has that same power in it, maybe I'm not looking around enough. But yea one time when I was on the phone and they said that their laptops were "too custom for on-site support" I completely flipped.
-
Ahh. here we go
http://forums.legitreviews.com/about5790.html
*sorry for posting another forum link* -
My opinion o the notebook maintenance thing is that, in general, I should not have to be concerned with the machine overheating. At the very least it should just crash, better yet games could auto-pause or the notebook parts should auto-underclock.
I understand these are very hot-running parts, but for $3000 and up, It should not go chernobyl...
Just my 2 cents -
i was just playing around with the url and i found the configure page http://www.alienware.com/Configurator_Pages/area-51_m15x.aspx?syscode=PC-LT-AREA51M15x&SubCode=SKU-DEFAULT. If this is accurate, the m15x will support 8600 gs all the way to an 8800 gtx
-
Here is the new Area-51 M17X.... it supposedly supports SLI 8800M's.
http://www.alienware.com/Configurat...?syscode=PC-LT-AREA51M17x&SubCode=SKU-DEFAULT -
I thought area-51 meant intel and aurora meant amd.
Or was it just coincidential? -
Oh well. Best gaming computer available was a fun title for my m9750 while it lasted..... *sobs*
-
I cant wait to see a pic of the m15x to see how that thing is going to be able to handle an 8800 gtx for a 15" laptop.
-
So, they're just configuring the page using an existing template that was based on whatever the Aurora 7500 may have been. -
I couldn't resist. =D -
lmao! that's too funny ink!

lol man whenever i place an order with some one a new laptop comes out...first i placed it with alienware but somehow they wont do much about it...had probs with the customer support..so i cancelled it n placed an order with sager....n now the m17x is out...ill have to cancel with sager n place n order with alienware again...lol
-
LOL @ the links to the order pages.
(Nice find, BTW)
I wonder what they'd do if you went ahead and ordered one. =P -
-

I can't afford to test the ordering for the new machines, they cost as much as my car!!!!
-
Hmmm.................this really complicates my decision.........
I was primed to order a 9750 until a couple of weeks back, now, not really sure what to do.
I hate that the 17X is not offered with WinXP, I HATED Vista on my old laptop that I ended up returning. Then again, with the chip selection they have, the "Vista Sandpaper Drag Effect" should be pretty much mitigated.
Anyone have any idea what the following options are/do?
Intel® Turbo Memory (1GB) – Accelerate Data Transfer Speed [+$50 or $2/mo.] ?
What exactly does this do? and is that an upgrade to the memory itself, or to the cache/bus/buffer?
Customizable AlienFX® Keyboard with Numeric Pad [+$50 or $2/mo.]
Sounds kinda Logitech-G15-Keyboard-ish, and if so, I'll definitely be getting that. -
alienware_fanatic Notebook Consultant
man oh man now i hope they launch this real quick i so wanna get one
-
Bo@LynboTech Company Representative
the whole turbo memory thing is a little strange
basically its a usb stick or similar that acts as extra memory somewhere between ram and hard-disk I think
but a lot on benchmarks using it seem to lose performance
so not entirely sure if its worth it right now, but considering you can pick up turbomemory sticks pretty cheap, its an option if it does make a difference in the near future -
dont know if this has been posted...........
but looks like the 15inch m15x will have WUXGA and 8800GTX

i wonder when would uk get this laptop cuz apparently thats the only place from where i can get it shipped to the UAE
-
Turbo memory fits in the mini-card slot. If it is set up like the sagers (and I think it will be) you can either have the turbo memory or the TV card. And the Turbo memory only works in Vista.
-
I think we just found out. They took down both pages, LOL. -
So could I buy turbo memory aftermarket and fit it to my 9750?
Will the new x51 or whatever its called actually feature a different body to the 9750, or is just a different mobo? -
It seems very unlikely that they would throw away that chassis design so soon, especially considering how successful it has been so far. -
Thanks mate.
Have been looking at these intel turbo flash thingy, and if it could fit into a side port and dissappear (rather than simply plugging in a large USB drive) it could only be a good thing.
Are there slots in the 9750 that could take these flash drives? (I've only had mine a week, so have not really spent time searching it) -
you sure its m17x? ... ://
-
yes its going to be M15x and M17x
(we found the configurations on their site, but they just pulled it) -
