The m15x has been out for almost a year and given how laptops usually get updated every year around their release date, I think a new m15x is inevitable sometime soon. For what it's worth, I have been told that the m15x will get a black chassis option like the m17x and some minor specification changes by an Alienware support representative, though I don't fully trust what they say. Here's my predictions for the next Alienware 15"

Announced the middle of January '09 through Breed or AlienNetwork (Breed still says it's going to feature the m15x and there's a new AlienNetwork video coming soon); available immediately
    Montevina processors
New NVIDIA chipset lets you switch between the integrated 9400M and a discrete video card, or combine their power
Starts with 9600M GT, can be configured up to the 9800M GTX
    1066MHz RAM
Much more durable, rigid chassis with black and silver options, though only the black design might be better because its' rubberized
    LED backlit screen
    Improved touchpad
Starts at $1499 at launch; goes down later on
    Same size as current m15x
    Improved cooling system

That's just my guess, but I could see all of that happening, except maybe the 9800M GTX. If Alienware released a system like that I'd return my MacBook Pro and I'd be the first to order it. What do you guys think will be in the next Alienware 15"/m15x refresh?

i hope they keep that smart bay option because it's a nice feature for the 15 inch. having that second battery and whatnot really makes it portable.

i like that dynamic gpu thing which helps battery life too.

if they keep with the dual GFX, hopefully they're able to more dynamically switch between the two... like resetting the Windows interface to the new card, rather than resetting the entire computer to the new card.

Though, I somehow think they'll wait till Calpella is released. releasing a Montevina platform this late into the product cycle seems a little outdated. the m15x is still a solid competetor on the 15" market too, so.... why not wait? Calpella is expected Q3 2009.

    yay quickpath!
