After 5 great years with my Area 51-m, a successor has been ordered...
My companion has been around the world with me many times, and never missed a beat or let me down. It has no doubt grown a bit long in the tooth, and it's time to move on. I have had a great experience with my first alienware, and am looking forward to 5 more years with the m9750.
Memory and hard drives are on the way, can't wait till June 4th!

And does anyone one for sure what kind of RAM the m9750 takes? Thanks

Ummm.... I believe it would be PC25300. DDR2. Which means that both memory modules have to match.

Actually they don't, you can install any combination you wish. Performance is marginally better with matching sticks although the difference won't be noticeable as far as I know.

    Correct Audiose, 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300).

Does anyone have and opinion on memory amount? I am going to get a minimum of 2gb dual channel memory, which seems reasonably priced. 4gb kits are 2.5 times as much! I would think 2 gigs is enough???

Future plans are to maybe upgrade to a faster processor and a second 7950GTX down the road.

I already have ordered 2 120gb Seagate Momentus 7200.2 Hard Drives.

    HaloGod2007,

Mine has been in phase 4 since last week. I was hoping to get it before the 4th, but not sure I will. I leave for Houston on the 4th for a month, and was hoping to get some seat time on the road! I will have to reroute the shipping if it doesn't make it.

I had a really hard time paying $600 bucks for the second card, hell this thing is faster than my desktop! I hope I can get one from AW down the road before they stop using them. I think even without the second card, it should be a fast well balanced system. Good luck with yours, anxious to hear what ya think

Yes you will be able to add another graphics card later. Also, they will have better cards in the future that you can add too. You can add and remove the cards by yourself with no tools required( thats what the alienware tech told me). So it should last a very long time. Also for RAM, 2GB will ne enough, in the future though you may need to add another gig if you will be doing hardcore gaming. Let me know when you order hits the next phase. And by the way, dont look online for what phase you are on because they said its very delayed, im in phase 4 but online it says phase 2, so call them to check it out. goodluck, hope you get it soon

If you wanna add more ram, go to www.newegg.com, great deals on that kind of ram

Those Phases on Alienware's site are not that accurate, so don't take them that seriously.

Just give your laptop a bit of time. :) From what I have seen and experienced, it usually takes about 2 weeks for a custom notebook to be delivered after you place the order.

Just to let everyone know, the support at alienware just told me that all m9750 orders will be delayed for shipment till the end of june, im about to start crying because i was expecting it june 4th. They said the best case scenario will be shipment in mid june, but unlikely. What a crock.

    End of June, Ouch!!!

Looks like I'll have to dust of the Area-51m one more time and hope it doesn't melt. Playing Fear was threatening to start a fire in my hotel room last month.

Well in the long run it will be worth the wait.

yes and i just found out they will be releasing direct x 10 cards for the 9750 this summer, something im gonna upgrade in another year or so, the 7950 GTX is insane as it is. Thats why i went with one vid card, so i can sli two direct x 10 cards. The card is the 8600m.

    Agreed Halo,

I went with one also. But I will wait for something better than the 8600m. When DX10 games become enticing, I will have to make the switch. Same with Vista...Hope this won't be a problem with this chassis, 2 DX10 cards that is...

I'm waitin till July with ya...

    I feel your pain...

LOL, lets get through this together, we can do it! Hopefully since im annoying them everyday about it, they will just get mine done with lol. Yea i wonder if it can handle dx10 sli......the tech support told me that there will definetly be upgrades for the laptop's graphics in the future for dx10, if they leave out sli, what the heck is the point?

Oh yes. I upgraded my computer, and had to wait for parts on "backorder" that they told me on the phone were in stock. They actually sent the computer back without the upgrades and I had to send it back to get them installed. Needless to say... annoying. But performance-wise... this is awesome!

Alienware had the T7200s backordered before too, it's a very popular CPU.

You could probably get something for free out of your extended delivery date . . . tell them that you're going to cancel since your ship date was delayed by almost a month and see what happens.

I only ordered on 5/4/07, so the delay is kind of expected, since the computers not even not their main site yet.

I find it odd that on the phone they say the graphics card is back ordered, then email me to say that the case and processor are back ordered less than 24 hours later...

The guy on the phone suggested calling them on Tuesday to see if they started building, but now that their only just getting the processor then, I doubt it.

How did you find out it may be the 28th HaloGod2007? The person on the phone didn't give an answer more specific than "4 or 5 days after they start building".

It still should be worth the wait

well they dont want to tell you it will be delayed, but i bothered them to the point where the lady, who now knows me well, just said there is a good chance you wont get it till end of june, around the 28th, im gonna tell them i will cancel because of this delay so that maybe i can get something out of it.....i ordered mine on 5/21 so i may be in bigger trouble than you lol. Again, im rediculously impatient. And yes, it will 110% be worth the wait.
By the way, whats everyones setup on their 9750?

Halogod, I'm assuming your upgrading the HD and ram yourself right? Your total should be over 3k if u order those parts from AW

Btw, I'm also considered either a 7500 C2D Desktop or a Superman laptop also... (they are priced at 1199.00 now)

Yea the HD and RAM i already have, my broken down laptop has the same ram and its got 2-1GB sticks in it. The HD im putting in is a 120GB 7200rpm ata. Dont know if that good enough, but i dont need alot of storage, all i will do is game in my dorm and do some homework(programming).
So when did you order Bryan and how is it coming along?
Also, if your considering the superman laptop over the m9750, performance will not be comparable, the m9750 will also last you a lot longer(it will even support future direct x 10 cards in sli configuration).
Desktop? if you will never want a small portable gaming machine, then there is no need for a laptop, im always on the go and alwys going to dormroom lan parties, so thats why i got a laptop, plus its amazing to take a laptop places knowing you blow away most desktops :p

Gonna be quite a machine Halo, bet the lan parties are something…

I am seriously considering having AW put in a second GPU while I wait, this would tide me over for a while gaming at home on the big LCD. Maybe I can go another year before upgrading the desktop??? TV is 1920x1080, and my desktop is also starting to show it’s age… $600 is hard to swallow, knowing what I could put in the desktop for that. OUCH!!!

i would just save money to do a sli setup with directX 10 GPU's around the end of 2007. One 7950GTX will be plenty for another year or so. Plus i wont get the first DX10 notebook GPU's that come out this summer, ill wait for better ones to comeout early 2008.

and a new update: AW told me today that the laptops should be shipped by june 4th, lastest june 6th. I think people who ordered a little later around 5/25(since this is the day they said orders will be delayed longer) will have to wait till late june early july. So we may be in luck, they said they will be able to tell me for sure this upcoming week :)

    I hope your right....
The two times I called last week they told me to call back on Tuesday (5/29), and they should be buildng and can give me an update.
But then I got that email saying they would not have the processor tll then, I guess they probably wont' be. And I don't see how they plan on getting an order of parts on monday, since it's a holiday.

Oh well, maybe I'll get someting for free for the wait (Or for not calling to ask thm..LOL)

Good point... Better to wait and let the dust settle, see which options are the most stable and best performing. Tough keeping myself from upgrading my home base stuff, as there are so many impressive desktop options out there right now.

I ordered mine on the 16th, so I hope I'm OK. I holding my breath along with ya!!! Just hate to be on the road for a month with no gaming at night, might get a bit cranky! Hope to be spooning mine in early June!!! :D

hmm i didnt get an e-mail saying anything would be delayed, and they keep telling me im on schedule and to not worry. So if they all the sudden say it will be delayed, ill just bring up them telling me to basically stop calling and worrying lol. They told the CPU was in stock, dont know why they told you its not.....we all get different answers....guess tuesday is the day we all find out, if you get anymore updates lets post them up here.

as for upgrading, yea the tech said they are researching numerous GPU's for the m9700 and m9750 this year, so waiting is best. Also, nvidia has some options and "coming soons" for the 9750 on their website under the M series dx10 cards list for notebooks. check it out, since m9750 is new many cards still have not yet been put up but will have many soon. HP and acer already got dx10 cards out but they arent that great from what i hear.

well the superman laptop looks too much like a toy but for the money (and rarity) it does look tempting. My m9750 should ship around 7/5/07

I should have ordred this unit a few weeks ago to avoid this delay lol

Hey guys, would you like me to change the name of this thread to something like "M9750 owners thread" or "M9750 waiting thread"?
