I got only an hour with the M9750 just surfing the Internet; I'd bet you get a half hour gaming. Pointless, really.

Depends on the game, really. My 'lunch time' game when I don't have AC, is Galactic Civ 2. I get an hour playing that.
-
CSS doesn't need tremendous GFX power - It runs on high on my VAIO - so you shouldn't worry about CSS not playing well on a single 7950GTX, Gal Civ 2 also runs fine on my VAIO, Medieval 2 as well

Perhaps this is the wrong forum for this but I am a M9750 owner. Since Bluetooth is integrated into the M9750 (as most new laptops are) I am looking for a good set of bluetooth headphones. Does anyone have any suggestions or comments on ones they own?

I have the Motorola S805s - they are decent. I have not hooked them up to my computer yet though but I'll try that later. -
I kill myself when creating the 9750 because I like feel this need to have Blu-Ray because if not all my future movies won't be able to play on my PC. The cheapest it comes to is like 4000. James how much did you pay for that set up you got there?
-
I wanted the Blu-Ray drive also. It was out of stock when I ordered, so easy decision to wait. Also my agent assured me that the price should drop in the future, and easy upgrade, "no need to send it in".
A home DVD player used to cost $1000, now I've seen new ones for $30...
I would wait a while on Blu-Ray, put money toward something harder to upgrade. -
I have a Blu-Ray player in my PS3 but I really want one in my PC to future proof it because I won't be getting a new PC anytime soon. Is there anyway I could put one in the laptop in the future? Just asking because I don't know much about laptops.
-
yep you can buy one and just replace the dvd,but where can this type of thing be found?DVD here: http://www.rjtech.com/miva/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=NOD
-
Wait untill bluray becomes cheaper,
Stu, I had a General Electric DVD player lol, $700c -
Any other UK M9750 orderers had to provide documents for ID purposes before payment could be processed?
This is now being requested from Alienware for my order and it's all taking ages to get anything done. Nothing seems to happen unless I call them to prompt some action and then I'm told I'll get an email within 24hrs on what needs to be done next. Everything seems to need a whole day before being acted upon and it's now over a week since I placed my original order!
I understand the requirement for strict security what with rife identity fraud and the like and appreciate the need for it but when you're aching to get your hands on something all the delays make it as frustrating as hell. They must think I'm some sort of criminal.. LOL
It makes it all the more worse when I see all you owners enjoying you M9750's now!
Sorry had to get that off my chest, rant over
-
Upgrading to Blu-Ray (for this computer) should be one of the easiest upgrades.
Full instructions from alienware's site.
You can buy the drive from Alienware, or otherplaces. The price will drop.
When I decided against the blu-ray drive it freed up enough cash for my iphone!
Phritz, I was still a kid, but remember driving to the next town to drop tons of cash on a VCR! -
m9750 landed in germany
es ist einfach unglaublich.... -
Mine is at the airport right now. I should get it today . . but since this is Latin America.. who knows.
-
Obligatory post from m9750
-
I just configured one online with all the bells and whistles including BluRay, Dual 7950 SLI, 200GB 7200 RPM x 2 HD RAID 0, T7600 2.33GHz processor, 4 GB RAM, 3yr Aliencare...went all out....then hit add to cart....Estimated ship date is 9/3/07. Holy cow...over a month from now? Forget it!
-
you'll probably get it a lot sooner. I ordered june 26th and it was shipped july 12th. I just received it today because I had to forward it from Miami to Panama where I'm currently at.
on another note, does anyone know if it's possible to switch the hotkeys to open other programs? Explorer hotkey opens mozilla, but I haven't managed to get the music hotkey to open foobar2000 (amazing player!). -
...or maybe not. I ordered mine second week of June and I'm still stuck in Phase 7. I lingered around in Phase 3 until about July 3rd when the backordered chassis came in. Then I went to phase 8 in about a week, back to 6 for a couple of days, and now I've been stuck in 7 for about 4 days. They assure me it's shipping this week, but I'm skeptical. Originally estimated ship date was July 3rd.

Congratulations! Must be nice.
Manufacturers usually always overestimate shipping dates so when it ships sooner you'll say "hey, they shipped it faster than they said!"
I haven't tried to set the keys . . . check the Control Panel and see if there is anything in there. -
I finally got mine!!! After flying through almost all the phases in 3 days I thought it was too good to be true.
The remote DOES work without the USB adapter (not very good range though). Aim it at the left speaker. -
Btw guys just wondering is there a BIG performance jump between 2.16Ghz and 2.33Ghz? I'm trying to save money any way possible.
-
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
There isn't. The performance increase is very small and certainly not worth the extra money. Get the 2.16GHz CPU.
Definitely upgrade the RAM yourself if you want to save money - check out the RAM DEALS thread. -
nice disco
i have a 2.0 ghz and its not letting me down its good
-
Is RAM installation easy? I've never even seen an open laptop, desktops yeah plenty but laptops are new to me. BTW you guys are awesome some of the best folks to ask help from. I'm also a long time member to PS3forums.com and lets just say they are nothing like you folks.
-
RAM installation is very simple, and AW will talk you through it. (You have to let them to avoid voiding your warranty.)
-
ya pretty simple to install
id defintly contact alienware before installing .
-
I ordered my 9750, single GPU, RAID 0 (100x2), 2.0 Ghz, XP Pro, WUXGA. Nothing fancy. I ordered it on June 10th and here it is July 17th. The original expected ship date was July 3rd and it's still in phase 7. I'm sure I'll like my 9750 but the delays are killing me. I have to ship out soon and I don't think it will get here before I go. I'm glad to hear some of you are getting your's sooner.
Rob

I find the keyboard to be a tad difficult to adjust to. =P I'll get over it.
-
Did AW just release the "32GB Solid State Drive" for the m9750? i don't remeber seeing that, and how is a 32gig HD 350$ >_<
-
Yeah, thats brand new, and so is the dual drive (non raid) option.
One of those is the 32g SS drive.
I dont know who will pay that money for one though. Id be curious to know who gets it and why....
the options keep getting updated...... -
Too expensive for me, but a flash HD sounds cool!
***from Alienware.com***
Most Durable and Reliable
Solid state drives (SSD) are ideal for road warriors and other enterprise users who rely heavily on the data they store in their notebooks.
* With no moving parts, SSD can withstand extreme temperature ranges, and conditions of vibration and shock in transit, as well as in outdoor environments.
High Performance
Flash memory delivers performance that keeps pace with "on the go" lifestyles. Compared with the HDD:
* SSD speeds up operating system boot and application launch/runtime by up to 2 times.
* SSD maintains fixed performance that does not deteriorate over time as the media fills up.
* Flash is noise-free, enhancing the user experience.
More Power Efficient
Flash memory saves power, keeping notebooks running longer so that users in transit can perform numerous read/write tasks every operating hour.
* SSD consumes up to 50 percent less power than the rotating HDD.
* SSD extends the battery life of your notebook.
Cooler
With no moving parts, flash remains cool in operation.
* Unlike HDDs, SSD does not require constant cooling for proper operation.
* SSD keeps notebooks cooler by consuming significantly less power than the HDD. -
no offence but when has a drive spin sound ruined ones laptop experience. ha ha
So what about the fact that solid state memory is known for impact sensitivity at least in ipods and flash cards.
I agree with you, way too much money for way too little storage. It will be a while before it gets to the price and size of regular hard drives......
You wouldnt want to know how much the first meg of ram was when it was made. -
Flash hard drives will increase your loading speeds by a ton, 350$ doesn't sound that much since the cost in the 300$
-
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
Flash drives are very expensive to produce at the moment. $350 seems very reasonable, I agree.
The great thing about flash drives is that there is no seek time. And of course they're silent, consume very little power, and are not sensitive to vibrations. -
To everyone who got their units already.......do you have any suggestions for a good backpack that will fit the m9750? Mine is schedule to ship on the first of Aug and I am hoping to take it with me on a plant visit on the 14th-18th of Aug.
thanks -
I bought the odyssey backpack that they offer. I checked the dimensions of the backpack, and even though the description doesn't mention the m9750 the laptop should fit.
-
well any bag that goes up to 17inch screen should be fine . but then again i havent tried any since i got the alienware backpack.
-
I have LOVED my backpack from Spire. For my large Dell 9100. According to their site though, the 9750 only fits in the sleeve that fits in their largest backpack. Im not convinced I cant fit it in mine yet and when I go to Comic Con next week, its one thing Im going to test out.
They make fantastic backpacks though!! They have an outdoor gear mindset - and no one designs better backpacks than outdoor companies. They tend to fit better than anything.
Ill let you know what I find when I actually hold the laptop and test it in my backpack. Maybe you need it quicker but I highly recommend spire. The one Spire claims fits it is a bit large but not horrible, I just dont want to buy another model since I have one. -
Thanks.......one last thing do you happen to know the inside dimensions for the laptop sleeve (minimum) to fit? I really was hoping to buy one now so it arrives just about the same time as the laptop.
-
well what you can do also is go to a store pick out a nice bag/pack and hold on to the reciept and give it back if it does not fit. but any 17inch bag will hold the m9750 i might be wrong but i remember when i ordered my m9750 i tested a 17inch bag at a local store with another 17inch notebook and it fits alright and the m9750 is not much bigger then it but ya ,
-
Hi guys, I will be purchasing the m9750 in a few week's time, but I was just wondering, does anyone know if the video card module of the m9750 is MXM3? It's just that I'd heard to upgrade to the Geforce 8800M video cards you require MXM3, and I'd like to know if I'd be able to do that with this laptop, as, although I will be sticking with the 7950 GTXs for a while, I will be upgrading to DX 10 cards in the future. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.
EDIT: Also, having a quick flick through some of the posts here, I've noticed a member talking about UK buyers having to provide ID documentation? I'm a UK buyer, so will I have to do all that? What exactly is involved in the process and is it likely to drastically affect the time it takes for me to get my system? -
The SSD drive and Serial ATA drive combo seems interesting. In real life situations, how much of a battery life increase is there? Will it be just a few minutes, like five, or will it be significant? Also, how does this configuration work? Can boot off of the SSD, and use the other one for storage? Does the performance/battery life improvements justify its $900 price tag? Just a few questions...
-
has anyone had any 7950 gtx driver issues? Half-Life 2 said that I don't have updated drivers. I went and checked at the nvidia website and only found drivers for the 7900go card.

Check out SFBags.com. They will custom-fit a sleeve for you. I have been using their products for almost two years now and in my opinion they are the best practical sleeves/cases you can get for the money. See my review here:
http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2688
I really don't think getting the SSD on a machine like the M9750 is worth it. Think about it - that's 32GB of storage for an insane price. You're going to want to load games, data . . .after the OS install you have very little space to play around with.
From what I have seen, SSDs do not provide a big difference in performance. You could check some of the reviews of notebooks we have with SSDs. SSDs are mainly aimed at the ultraportable market because A) they are silent and B) they consume very little power. Those two items are non-issues on the M9750. -
I had a question about the 9750's "true color". I know that for a while people as well as personally have realized the color you see on screen isn't always what you end up printing. I know people can always say that it's the printer that is doing this....well lets just assume that these printers are high quality plotters or laser printers ( which they are). I know that I have always had issues with "true colors" being printed out. From what I understand APPLE doesn't have these issues because my brother is a graphic designer who uses a mac and never had any issues regarding this (actually the main reason why he made the jump from PC to MAC). He is always telling me that the MACs' are "true color" the color you see on screen is what you get. Anyways, enough background on this subject matter, but really, how well is the 9750 when it comes to displaying "true color"? How is the color depth in comparison to a MAC?
-
Whoooahhh. This is a surprise. I ordered my m9750 last July 11th and got an estimated shipping date of Aug. 9. Last night I checked my mail and found out I received a shipping notice from Fedex, including the tracking numbers. It was already shipped on July 16 and expected to be received at July19. I hope its not one of those refurb. Could it be because I ordered only the 1440x???? screen?
-
r u from philippines bay?

Congratulations - must be exciting!
Yes it very well could be that your system shipped faster because you ordered the WXGA+ screen instead of the WUXGA. According to Alienware's website right now the following will delay your order if selected:
