Ok, ONE pic for you guys before I test this thing out with games.

(note- touchpad turns off when you plug in mouse, so thats why the light is off)

So far this thing is a beast, I want to try it out with some games though.

    SPECS-
    preconfig 2099 model
    2.2 core 2 duo, 8700m gt 512, 2gb ram, 7200 rpm 120gb hdd.

    SEXY MACHINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you can hear the fans, but they're not annoying. the keyboard is great, better than my old t41 thinkpad. very solidly built.

comes with cool cloth pouch to protect it. NO dead pixels.

alienware ships them out in a new black box. very nice!

speakers are good, but a little distortion when you turn the volume all the way up. could have been a crappy sound file though.

hmm what else. well it's a great, but my old thinkpad wasn't exactly top of the line when i got it.

siick, the side lights are still there

Also, how does the volume control work? Do you tap some Up/Down buttons to make the volume change, or can you flick your finger along the bar and change that way? (I think it's the first way, but I really want it to be the second way ;) )

yeah, from what evidence I saw I would've guessed they got rid of them, but it's good they didn't.

Anyway, my edit seems to have not gone through, so I'll ask the question again. How does the volume control work? Do you press some (touch-sensitive) Up/Down buttons to change it, or can you flick your finger agross the bar and change it that way? (I'm guessing it works with the buttons, but it'd be cool if you could flick it)

the volume is a slider, so you slide your finger across. it's not totally accurate though, or maybe i just suck :(

i will take more photos and post them later today, i know everyone is excited to see some pics, but think about how excited you'd be to actually use the laptop :)

oh nice -- I thought (from the few photos you could see) that there were three buttons underneath the volume slider (which I guessed to be Up, Down and Mute) so you couldn't do the sliding thing, but that's great. That'll entertain me very very much :D

    mrwater,

Could you please check in device manager for what brand of chipset is used for firewire on the laptop? (This is important to hook the laptop up to external soundcards for use as a digital audio workstation.) If you expeand the firewire entry in device manager it should list what brand of chipset is used as part of the driver name.

Awesome, man! Congrats! The silver looks amazing, wonder how the black version looks. I can't wait to see some more pictures! How's the screen? I seriously can't wait to order my m17x, I think I could even get a nice discount on it (not saying anymore...).

Do you know what integrated video card is used for stealth mode? I want to install another OS on it, and it all depends which integrated card the system uses if I can (can't explain more as doing this is against forum rules...).

Here are some more pics, one pic is of the pouch you get. The surface is really glossy. I'm loving this so much! The bottom doesn't get too hot either, and the fan hasn't gotten too loud or annoying.

    How can I monitor temp?

Crysis- runs pretty good on high settings with shadows on medium.
Hellgate London- crank this baby to the max on single player, pretty high on multi, handles it very well.

Anyone who is going to get this with the 8800 is in for a REAL treat. Hell, the 8700 is pretty beefy as it is, I can't imagine if I had a gpu that was 40% more powerful!

Very nice shots mrwater; very glad to hear you're enjoying it. Can you fill us in on how big it is? Is it really 1.3 inches as claimed by AW?
