    Of 31. ;)

And BTW, it does show up as Core 2 EXTREME on everything.

BTW, everything runs great on it so far, the avg idle is low 50's on my system.

And with same drivers/apps running, etc, the 3dMark score jumped up ~1800 pts from my P8400.

If you need a specific benchmark, I can do it if I have time, but you'll have to request it.

I need to redo my thermal paste (they only had the cheap stuff available at the store, ordered some AS5).

I don't get the point of gettng a QX9200 when you might as well get a QX9300.

edit: nvm, I've just seen the prices

The price. Go ahead and spend the extra $$ on a QX9300.

I posted up on here for the people who are looking into it. There's no need to come in here and bash on it, so go back to your thread about overclocking your Q9000 to the speed of a Q(X)9200. While you're at it, try to see if you can increase your 6MB L2 cache to the 12MB this one has AND unlock the multiplier.

Edit-N/M the rude(ish) reply. You edited your post that you saw the pricing.

Anyways, back to those who were wanting information. Here's the Everest report. I bolded the only differences in Supported/Not supported, etc between it and the P8400.

So would this mean you can use M17x's BIO to overclock 9200 chip?

As the multiplier is unlocked (or more specifically maxed out to 31 but you're not going to be overclocking to 8246mhz) then there should be no issue Overclocking it.

I cannot get the Zfactor bios to load up on here yet. I've burned 5 CD's and all of them haven't worked. No matter what CD I get to boot, it hasn't "SEEN" the files needed to flash from the CD, although they're not hidden and they show up fine on the CD in Vista.

Even if I never edited it the harsh reply was a little uncalled for...

And benchmarks have shown that there is virtually no performance boost for a 12MB cache over 6MB.

Still...is there any chance that you could send your laptop and one of these to AW and have them put it in, so that the warranty is intact and there is no need to put the old CPU back in?

No, unless you buy the CPU from Alienware AND have them install it (they won't sell you one unless they do anyways) the warranty isn't in tact.

Even if you bought a QX9300, you couldn't just send the laptop and CPU to them and have them install it for you. It's their way of making sure you pay THEIR price for the CPU, regardless of the retail price.

I mean so that the warranty on all the OTHER parts is still intact. Would they just blatantly refuse to install it?

Oh and how about seeing some overclocking on that thing? :)

    They wouldn't even install it.

I'll overclock once I can finally get the Z factor bios flashed. I'm not a fan or comfortable with FSB overclocking.

    Got the Bios installed.

One thing I do notice, is that the Q(X)9200 sits at 1.263V at 2.4. At 2.66, it's running 1.313V.

ZFactor told me that the OCZ bios allows for a little over 1.3V, so I'm not sure exactly how high the multiplier can be pushed with this.

That being said, assuming that the QX9300 has a lower voltage, it'd be a better choice for someone really wanting to push it to the limits. This processor isn't a slouch, but it's probably the fact that it's higher voltage probably is why it wasn't released. If you notice in the CPU, it states SP9400 which was a dual core model that was released. Maybe the original plan was to essentially use 2 SP9400 cores as a quad core CPU.

I don't know. Bottom line=I like it regardless and the value is great.

I'll try to push it up in a bit, but as stated, the voltage might become an issue at higher than 2.66.

Well, it's only pulling 1.313 at 2.8 too, so maybe it's not an issue. I actually overclocked immediately following installing the Bios, so it might be running at 1.313 with it at 2.4 now too.

Everest is reporting that the FSB is also overclocked, but CPUID isn't, and 3dMark reports the correct ghz, so I think Everest is wrong.

Moo: The voltage is the same even at 2.4. I just didn't notice b/c I'd overclocked right away. But, 2.93 seems to be the max on this, and it's running great at that. I may be able to get a bit more from FSB overclocking, but I don't like that way

Here's a screen shot. I JUST now saw that 3dMark06 has a newer version than what I'm running. All my 3dMark's were taken back to back to back right after startup. For reference, the highest I'd scored with my P8400 was right around 11,000.

If I can get a GOOD test goin, I should have a pretty good score. Just tested 15,416, but with over 6K Sm2.0, and only a 4180 CPU score. I'm tired though, I'm going to mess around some more tomorrow.

sorry for the late reply yeah the system doesnt like to flash with a disc most of the time the usb works best.

i have found out from sources the q9200 and qx9300 are esentially the same chip and the only difference is in the binning and the qx9300 is factory overclocked.. the guy i know at intel said with the right stable voltage and a good overclockable chip (if you get lucky to get one) they actually should overclock to the same speeds... fyi.. i just snagged a q9200 for my system ill be ordering to try against the qx9300 i have here that i know ran at 3.3-3.4 on the whitebook i had...and that was stable (i went through over a dozen chips though in testing / selling) so im hoping for 3.2 but we will see

Yeah, I FINALLY found a utility to get it to work. I have a Sandisk Cruzer with some U3 crap. Reading around, it's a PITA to get it bootable, but I finally did.

Got your Bios installed, running this Q9200 @ 2.93.
