I recently promised that I will be stress testing my cousin's XPS m1730 and compare it to my old m15x and I did :D

    Computer Specs:
X7900 Extreme Processor (it wasn't over clocked during the test)
    4GB RAM
    400GB Hard drive (200x2) 7200rpm
    Dual GeForce 8700MGT with 512MB GDDR3 Memory

-I used RivaTuner to monitor the temperatures and the clocks.
-I used ATI Tool to stress the graphic card.

I ran the test for full 2 hours and here is the graph.

    Physically
If you touch the system at the bottom you can feel that it is hot.
At the back the air flow is less and cooler comparing to the m15x.

Note: The m1730 was amazingly silent. I didn't hear the fans AT ALL.

Edit: I am aware that I am comparing a 17-inch to a 15-inch laptop but since many people want to know about the heat of the m1730, I did it :)

be nicer if u compared the Sli 8800m GTX... m1730....

i find it pretty funny that a Sli 17inch XPS setup is cheaper than a 16inch M15x single GPU setup..

if u ask me alien ware soon be a forgotten brand.. the amount of bad press its been getting over the past "wow years" has been out of control.

The 1730 is not cheaper than the m15x, at least not with the sli8800mgtx, if you are looking the sli8700m gt, you will get a bit lower performance in some games and a lot less in some others.

Configuring with near the same config(wuxga,160gb 7200rpm,2gb t8300), the alienware costs $50 dollar less....
