Just got off the phone checking the status of my order, and after talking to the operator for a bit it turns out that the reason we have all been delayed in phase 4 for so long is because they decided to change chassis on the m15x, and go with a higher quality one that will not have the same problems as the launch products.... Sucks for the people that got one early, but the current orders will have them...

If there's one thing I've learned is to take what these "CS reps" say with a grain of salt...

Sure you will... and a trip to the moon as well.
Well... I really doubt that's true, but if it is... I'll be the first one demanding the revised chassis. I didn't pay to be their guinea pig.
Anyway... Mine is back at AW, so if this is true (which I doubt), I will just keep sending it back till I get my sparkling, perfect, amazing M15x. :)

this has been speculated on for a while though so this isn't surprising to hear it from *someone* at AW.

besides, as an early adopter I don't feel bad about missing out on the chassis. I have no scratches, screen wobble is minimal and have hardly any light leakage problems. For some, though, it isn't as simple.

If true, AW better be prepared to replace the chassis/laptop of any "early adopter" that requests it.

I'm kind of tired of hearing about all of this, because I feel really bad for those hurt by this.

Cheers Greg for your comment. I do feel bad for myself and all the others as well... We can only hope a better day will come.
But if AW revises the Chassi and I'm cut out because I bought it earlier... I will torch AW to the ground with all the strenght I have (not that I have much, but well...).

I would really like to see someone compare and earlier one to one that will have this "revised chassis" it will most likely be hard to tell without a real side by side.

I'm one of those early buyers, if this is true I'll be the first one to send in my laptop for the revised chassis. the touch controls are horrible, the volume slider/control only worked once ever since I got it. the cracking sound/wobbly screen and the touchpad are also really bad, comparing to other laptops.

I mean at this price I would expect at least the build quality to be superb.

but from my past experience with AW, and what others have said, the CSRs don't know jack about what's going on. Trust me, just search for a thread about the lighting patch, for the m15x. Everyone who called to ask about the lighting on the m15x, would get different answers.

Any current owner willing to call to see if they can confirm this or can Armando give an answer on this. I'll send in another e-mail to see if I can get a support tech to confirm this.

Update: Tried an online sales rep, completely useless. No denial, they just said they didn't know. Then I updated my support thread with Alienware, the guy I've been dealing with seems to know his stuff and has already said that they were stocking supplies of the skullcap cases. I'll update when I get a response.

@Patrick33. Was that from the US?

IF that is true (and i do stress the IF) I guess that it would proably take a while for the new chassis (just like every other AW product) to arive in the UK.

If it's true, and the new chasis will be a lot better, they better change mine, cause if not, I'm going to brake it and send to repair! Well all of my touch controls work, and i can live with the little screen wobble I have, but I will not have an older model, no sir :D

I don't know if they are improved but I can confirm that my order is on hold till the 14th because they are waiting for a shipment of chassis. So if this is true hopefully I will get an improved one. And I am in Canada.

I got my m15x yesterday, and I was also stuck in phase 4 for a long time cause the screen was on back order. I ordered mine around the beginning of May. I probably got the old model chassis cause the screen still squeaks lol

they said they ordered a different chassis completely due to the overwhelming response of how bad the old one was... I would think that Armando may be able to confirm this, but we will see... The rep said the chassis comes from the same company though if i remember right...

Just got this e-mail. I had send an e-mail asking about if my payment had been recieved, as I was stuck on Phase 2 for several days after recieving an e-mail saying they had recieved my payment. It was more of a being careful measure, but anyways:

According to your account information, your order has been paid in full. However, our Order Status page is not reflecting the correct phase. We are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.

Unfortunately, we have been informed by our Production Department that the Cases are still backordered. The new estimated time of arrival for those items should be at the beginning of this month. Concerning the shipping date, your order will be rescheduled and will be moved to priority as soon as the part comes in.

Please be informed that our current delay is based on the highest quality standards. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this situation may represent. Your patience and understanding in this matter are appreciated.

if everyone is offered the upgrade doesnt that mean it will still take as long because there are always customers in front of you.

after i sent mine back a couple of weeks ago and they replaced the
AREA-51 M15X 15" WXGA+ W/CAM SIL-RIP-PNT the price was added to my hive and it was £390.70/$781.40 for the replacement.
i think someone is going to be loosing a lot of money over the next few months if they are going to replace every chassis sold so far.

i honestly dont expect them to replace the old ones... Its like when a car manufacturer builds a car with a certain engine, then change the engine in the same model to a more efficient or higher quality one, they don't replace the engine in the old cars....

they aren't going to replace it... That would cause a massive backlash of consumer hate and they would be obligated to replace every case sold on an earlier model if the customer requested it. Not gonna happen. I'm getting a second model that's been on hold for this mystery chassis so I'll let you guys know when it comes in but I'm not holding my breath.

I don't think they'd be obligated to replace it, as long as the "older" case was still functioning. If it were to crack, then yes, they should replace it with a newer one.

Could be. Though, does "still functioning" include wobbly screen and a non-functioning security slot? a LOT of people are going to try for replacement chasis.

Selfishly speaking - I hope that doesn't further delay the orders I and others are waiting on!

Seriously though - I hope all customers come out winners here, one way or another.

Actually, there will be even more consumer backlash if they don't offer case replacements to everyone. Seriously...if they do not do it AW just sent a message saying they do not respect their customers and use them as beta testers.

If you have a problem, too bad...but we still want to know so that we can fix it in a future revision so the other later customers are happy. Oh, and we won't replace yours because it will cost too much money and we'd rather keep it thank you.

At least that is how I'd interpret that.

New case? No "recall?" Believe me when I say only the unknowing will buy a new product from AW if that happens, because anyone who gets the whole m15x story will realize they might get shorted if they buy a AW before AW-SP1.

thats exactly the same as what happened with the ford pinto. if you crash into it a certain way the car would explode. ford knew this and knew that if they had to do a recall and fix every car it would cost them too much money. ford just left it and then just got sued a couple times, but it was cheaper than fixing every car.

if AW were to fix every chassis they would lose a lot of money so i doubt they will give you a new chassis. the chances are not zero but it is very unlikely AW will create a new chassis.

But your Ford example, exiled, points to a different route of attack for AW. What they could do is offer the free replacement for everyone, but bet that not everyone will take it. It's exactly how that suit would have gone: everyone who owned that car would have been entitled to a payment from that suit, but not everyone is proactive enough to care and so Ford gets away with paying less than replacing everyone's cars. AW may hope that not everyone will want to replace their chassis (and frankly, barring any truly extreme difference, I wouldn't)

This is precisely the kind of thing that someone from AW should officially comment on. A simple "yes, it's true", or "no, that's not correct" when issues like this arise would do a lot to improve customer happiness. Lack of info and constantly changing stories about the delays (from customer service people, cancellation agents, etc.) is the biggest reason I canceled my order.

I think they haven't commented yet because they haven't decided what to do yet. If they choose not to replace my creaking screen and case I'll be really pissed off and see to what legal limits I can go to enforce this, that's for sure.

How stupid is this? My mate's £400 Lenovo he bought last year has a more rigid chasis than this £2000 system.

The public relations / marketing people at Alienware should be fired (are they all just playing w.o.w and are too concerned with getting their next rare then actually doing their job and protecting their company's reputation), in a business its not about making a mistake its how you fix it and communicate to your clients that matters - Alienware is losing customers daily because of their ignorance - Alienware your an online store - communicate with your online customers.

So many new customers like myself come to this forum daily to read up on feedback for the new m15x and m17x - hay it's a lot of money and we need to know what other people's experiences have been before we take the leap
(benchmarks are also great to know).

lol put "alienware problems" in google and see what you come back with its a scary sight my friends.

They will release the *new chassis designs* in 24th of june bla bla bla,in my opinion maybe and only maybe(if there RD department got there hands dirty the meantime they were selling the m15x with problems) they improved the preview chassis in the new chassis designs,i dont believe they will do nothing more,as for returning the chassis and AW doing it for free i believe thats will not be possible since this will happen while the release a new* skullcap product.

Smells like marketing trick again after all these m15x complaints, but if they actually provide that new*chassis with problems solved will be for the benefit of all.I hope AW will let current m15x owners upgrade to that chassis even with a price.

    i completely agree with DevlReD

Guys pure speculation as always. but best guess imo is that they are not going to replace every ones chassis lets be honest i've been reading this board for ages most of the complaints about it are the "feel" / "sounds" rather than hardware function faults in the chassis..

    my guess

New Case will be the black/skull cap options (mabye its even the same quality as the silver but they say skull cap makes it stronger... this is PR we are talking about!!).

chances are guys with the silver case are going to get a Brand new chassis are close to nill just based off "it makes noise" or.. "it feels cheap".. taking hardware out and remounting it in new paintjobs/plastics is just not viable way to much labor and time wasted.

Only way u could get a completely new case i would think is a functional error .. not "sound and creeks".. not "feel".. but operation structural damage etc (it cant open... its fallen to bits etc etc... or if your motherboard is damaged.. other wize i doubt u will get much changed of the actual shell just based of quality rather than function.

I doubt the new case is any stronger but.. prob exactly the same materials and design just matte black with skull cap as promised in a alien network video happening at the same time give or take.

sorry to be heartless just my take on the reality of the situation. Good luck talking to ALienware.

I've configured an M15X and sat there ready to purchase it probably 25 times. IF they fix the heat issues, I'm ready to take the plunge now that I found out Montenvina will be hardly any faster and the new 15 inch laptops will still use the 8800GTX.

If the engineers at AW manage to sort out the heat issues with a better chassis, I'm ready to take the plunge. Please let me do it. I'm so tired of my terrible HP DV9000 with 7600 GS.
