not sure if it's relevant to the older m17x, however...

did you by any chance update the command center from the internet before upgrade?

and after upgrade, did you install from the resource cd?

if so, chances are you corrupted the fx chip and it requires a mobo replacement. :(

try doing the power drain trick, take out the battery and chord.
hold the power button for around 10 sec.
    now replug and turn on.

Unfortunatelly, it sounds like you might need a motherboard replacement.

I had the same exact issue, and my motherboard is currently being sent over.

A Dell Technician will arrive at my house and replace the motherboard.

It has something to do with the fact that the i/o board is gone or something.

If anything, call Alienware Support. They were able to remotely control my system to install the proper drivers. Unfortunatelly, it was not as simple as that.

yeh if you install the original cd version at any time AFTER using the new version from the internet... you corrupt the alienfx controller chip. needs a mobo replacement. :(

there are still a few thing like the youcam software and the dvd playing software on the disk that is still usable. back those up then you can do what ever you wish with the disk.

should also mention there's dell diagnostics on the disk as well, will need it if you contact tech support. (if you loose the partition on the hdd). by running it on the cd it seems to re-install itself on a 100mb partition of your hdd.
