    Hey everyone,
I have a quick question about thermal replacement pads. In the process of removing the primary 8700, one of the thermal pads came appart on the heat sink. It looks like the north bridge one. I know that normally it either sticks to the chip or the heat sink, but I wasn't so lucky on this one. I've been looking at sites for replacement gel pads, and I'm unsure of which ones will actually work. Here's the links:

    http://www.frozencpu.com/products/3776/thr-18/Thermal_Tape_-_1_Inch_Square_148_0012.html

    http://www.frozencpu.com/products/6...l_Pads_for_Stealth_8800_Series_VGA_Block.html

I'm aware that Alienware would probably replace it, but at the cost of the whole heat sink. I'm just trying to apply a new pad. Let me know which of the two would work.

    Thanks,
    Gabe

Try calling AW and tell them to just send you a replacement pad if possible.

    Gabez,

I'm trying to see if I can have the thermal pads sent to you without the heatsink. Worst case, we send you a part-first heatsink/Thermal pad combo and you send us back the old heatsink when you are done. I suggest you replace it with TS on the line just in case anything happens.

Any way i can get through to an alienware tech, as i see one has posted here,. I also have the same issue of after 20 minutes of gaming , my m5700 was overheating, so i decided to replace the thermal pad with thermal paste and see if it would stop this. Unfortunately the thermal pads on the video card(all three) were basically all torn up when i got the cooler off. Can anyone help with this, or is there better pads to use nowadays?
