This is my second alienware, the first one got GPU failiure after waranty went out.

Now, 4 months after warranty went out on my alienware 17 I think I'm experiencing the same problem.

Got bluescreen when I startet my computer today and after that the GPU did not work.

First after some googling I removed the GPU from the hidden list in device manager and removed Nvidia drivers.

Could not detect it in bios either so tried reflashing bios to a15 and it came back in Bios, but I can't install the driver. Nvidia 780m
Just get this message: the graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware.

I'm pulling my hair. Do I really have to buy a new computer now? One thing is for sure, I'm never gonna buy alienware again.

If its an older Alienware 17 (2013/2014) then just replace the GPU.

If its newer then you have replace the motherboard, sadly that has CPU and GPU so the cost is much higher than just replacing the motherboard.

The third option is a band-aid fix, but may work. You can use the graphics amplifier to bypass the GPU but you wouldnt have a laptop anymore. Its a desperate solution but hardly one I would ever recommend.

He said can’t install driver. Nvidia 780m
You could take out the graphics card from the MXM slot then clean the slot and contact points on the graphics card.

Actually found it in bios yesterday, but the Nvidia driver installer can still not find it, any suggestions? Finding it in bios is good I guess, as the computer recognizes the card now.

Usually it’s a dead card if the driver don’t detect a native card. Have you tried a different card?

My 780m just died recently as well, maybe its just about their time to go or something.

Anyways a good backup card IMHO is the m6100, very cheap and should allow for you to still play games and such until you can replace or upgrade the GPU.

I got mine for about 40 USD. IIRC performs about the same as the 860m/960m

780m's didn't exactly have the best track record for longevity and are well known to fail. Grab a 980m , install it and call it a day.

This. The 780m was a dog of a gpu unfortunately.
