I am thinking about getting an alienware laptop. i want it mainly for gaming not real high performance games just games like gears of war and call of duty 4 (must be able to run them all on high with no fps problems) i dont really wanna spend $5000 on a notebook.

if anyone has any suggestions id like to hear them

You could get a m15x for a little less than $2500 with an 8800M GTX. Around how much are you looking to spend?

Are you going to be carrying the notebook around with you a lot? Check out the m15x on Alienware's site. Also check out the Sager NP8660 from XoticPC.

why $3000 while a $2500 m15x can handle them like piece of cake.

best brand and best parts can be skewed depending on point of view.
i could say hyundai is better then toyota, or ford is better then chevy, but that could be based on personal feelings due to ownership or use.
then again, i could say that just to spite the one company over another for no reason other then i want to.

so - best brand/best parts is very subjective depending on who posts....

They'll both be as fast. One thing to consider is that the Sager is 1.45"-1.95" thick and the m15x is 1.3" thick.

On the Sager it is, on the Alienware it isn't. Extreme processors are a waste of money, especially in notebooks.

will you people please learn to read the agreement....
is says MAY be charged a restock fee.
if there are issues and he is unhappy, he can possibly avoid the fee....
if others did not then shame on them for just paying.

i agree the fee should be applied if all you want to do is return it for no reason other then you want to.
but if you have legit issues, they should not charge you. if there were legit issues and you paid anyway, then shame on you for not knowing the policy.

If you take the x9000 processor you will most likely experience overheating and downclocking. If you dont take it you shouldnt be worried, m15x had overheating problems before the new BIOS. Now GPU temps spike under load at 88C, at which point fans kicks in at full power and brings it down. CPU temps are sub 55 for me under load, when I am playing on integrated GPU which share exhaust vent CPU temp goes up to 64 degrees.

The laptops runs hot which is expected with the 8800, but the dangerously hot temperatures have been fixed. Except in a few cases the temps have been reported to go up to 104C when the fan forgot (?) to turn on. I have never experienced anything like that tho, and i switch from "stealth mode" and normal mode all the time.
