I was one of the original owners of the m15x awhile back. I sold for somthing because it had some problems and I wanted a mac. Im thinking about buying another one because of the HD screen and form factor. I have a couple questions.

    1) Has the quality been approved? Are people now still having the hinge, downclocking, etc issues?

    2) Can I upgrade the graphics card myself easily? Where can I buy one? Im looking at the best performance. However I do not want to spend more than a few hundred. How difficult is this? I heard someone here installed a gtx 280m?
    +450 seems ridiculous for a 9800m gt.

I am an original owner, i sent it off 2 weeks ago for a repair (hinge cracked). They replaced the whole chassis AND gave me the 1920x1200 screen, it's unbeliavable, the screen quality is immense. And I'm a glossy man - i like my gloss, so iwas devastaed when i got it, but now, i wouldn't swap :S. I just wish it was glossy though. The blacks on the screen are awesome :S.

Anyway it's so simple to upgrade the gpu it's stupid, undo 8 screws, and you're laughing.

I say go for it mate :)

Quality of my m15x is superb. Think it was improved in the last year.

Upgrading graphics? prolly not. Just buy one with an 8800gtx/9800 and your set. same basic card, and perform really well. Might consider used one even

I would wait for the new M15x refresh rumored to be right around the corner if I were you. If you don't like the looks of the new one they should still have some spare old M15x's leftover to buy within the first week.

correct the M15x i right around the corner and it would be a better bang for the buck then the current.

But if you do you can upgrade the GPU very easily

only a mac user would subject themselves to buying the same sub-par laptop more than once.

but I'd wait for the refresh personally.

sounds like waiting for a refresh is the best bet and I would agree also upgrading graphics while easy is very expensive compared to getting it in the machine in the first place

The popular belief is that it will be released in time to catch the "back to school" crowd.

Nothing officially yet, but it's likely to be the case.
