Hey all! I'm currently thinking about buying the m5550 as I begin my departure into college! I'm a little bit confused though. I've read both good and bad reviews about Alienware and the m5550 but it seems most of them are a few months back. My question is this, has Alienware switched over to Santa Rosa? or have they even attempted to fix the overheating issue? If not, what would be a good laptop to buy now a days?

I'm in the mood for a laptop mainly for web design and school issues. However, I would enjoy being able to play a game every now and then. One of my biggest concerns is bloatware that will eat me alive so anything without that would be a bonus.

    Thanks Fellas!

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T5500 1.66GHz 2MB Cache 667MHz FSB
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7200 2.00GHz 4MB Cache 667MHz FSB Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7400 2.16GHz 4MB Cache 667MHz FSB Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7600 2.33GHz 4MB Cache 667MHz FSB

I did have major problems when I frist got my system. The Motherboard was not controling the Fan right and explain to the company it was not the heatsink or fan was the Trouble but the Motherboard. After I sent it back 5 times then they Listen to me.

Now after they fix the problem. It been running 100%. Running Vista and xp pro. Running Lord of the rings Shadow of Angmar max out on Grapics. The core temp is around 75c.

So would you suggest buying the M5550 over the Dell Inspiron 1520 then? Quite frankly I hate Dell but with so much negativity revolving around the m5550...

Although I think the m5550 is a nice machine, it is now behind the times a bit . . . it is not Santa Rosa. You can get a faster machine for your money quite frankly. We ask that you fill out the FAQ in the What Should I Buy forum for recommendations.
