I'm sitting here thinking of getting an Alienware because i've always wanted one and the m15x with the lighted keyboard and the skullcap design are just very cool..
But I can't stop thinking about the new Clevo 860TU that will give the newer T9400 45nm processors and the 9800GT nvidia card for about $2000.
Where as an alienware will get me a little older processor and the 8700 video card or $500 more for the 8800GTX..
basically i give up alienware name, lighted keyboard and skullcap design for an overall more bang for your buck laptop with the Clevo.
Anyone know when Alienware might come out with the new processors and newer video card options?

look on ebay for refurb systems, you can find a good deal there.
i think alienware is testing the 9800 gtx for their m15x, but i am not sure.
and the alienware name means very little now. their CS is horrible, the build quality on the m15x sucks, and skullcap isn't all that worth it.
go for value. -
there will be no centrino 2 for m15x.
-
Only 9800M GT (aka. new 8800M GTX) will be acceptable. -
-
santa rose only support up to 800mhz FSB.
-
and as mentioned above and also by AW the 9800 gtx will not now or never be available for the m15x -
thanks for making my point -
-
WOW,hold your gee gees.
complete lie eh,hmmm.
about a month ago someone on here bought a m15 of ebay and it didnt work properly. he tried to get the warranty and order number of the seller but they couldnt find it. AW said they couldnt help him as he did not buy the laptop from them direct.
so facts before accusations pleeease. -
-
thanks for that whizzo.
me,liar,never.
maybe a pain in the ass sometimes though -
-
well the 9800M GTX is NOT being tested for the m15x it is being tested for the m17x since it has a better build and better cooling system then the m15x... as for the warranty an alienware warranty DOES NOT transfer plain and simple have talked to MANY ppl on forums and in AW... so please stirfry dont go calling someone a liar even if you think he is wrong

well my source would be talking to the Alienware CS in roswell and well them telling me that...im just telling you what they told me thats all... sorry for not having an official source
-
wow lots of replies..
well, first off i wouldn't ever buy an alienware off of ebay - and guess i miss typed at the start saying the clevo had the 9800gtx... It has the 9800M GT..
Which by the way does anyone know of a website that shows all the mobility type video cards and says which one is better? Like this new 9800M GT is this better then the Alienware 8800M GTX ??
Well - think from hearing a lot of people's issues with the casing and creaks, sound and customer service i'm leaning more towards the new clevo but will sure miss the darn lighted keyboard and skullcap.
someone should come of with a nice step by step mod on adding led lights to laptops. -
9800M GTX ~ 120-125% of 9800M GT -

At this point in time, its very hard NOT to go with the Clevo. Newer technology, better parts, reliability, better price. 6 months ago, it would have been a different story.
The only reason anyone should get an m15x over the Clevo at this point is 1) looks and 'name brand' and 2) battery life w/ integrated gfx, and smartbay battery.
For me, #2 is very important... it makes the m15x one of the most flexible machines out there. You can go to class all day w/ just battery power, watch 2 movies on a flight from NY to London and still kick ass gaming when you get to your hotel.
Its too bad build quality is so bad. Otherwise, the price premium would be (very) arguably justified vs the Clevo. -
newer tech = yes, for now
better price = yes, prob forever....lol
better parts = hahaha...they share a lot of the same parts as most manufacturers when it comes to certain items. (cpu, gpu's, and i would venture lcd's, and a few other items)
reliabilty = hahaha again. they have dropped a few items from the offers as they finally found out they are not working right (ati gpu, and ssd'd which were offered as a pre-order then pulled becuase clevo/sager did not test fully prior to pre-order sales). and honest, while a unit from them has been reliable, the new clevo is not out yet nor has been long enough to validate that against the m15x. -
well there is a number 3 to the reasons for the m15x. the m15x is lighter and it is smaller. the extra 500 doesnt really justify the size difference but its something to consider.

i agree exiled.
he was referencing the clevo pros so i validated two, and subjected two.
but i agree yours adds another pro to the m15x, although to be fair, the difference is negligible. -
they did not fully test the items before they went on sale. bad move. before shipping, yes, that is where i agree with you.
and again, this is m15x (which has been updated with new bios/firmware, etc...) vs. the 860TU, which has not even been in anyones hands as of yet. so in reality, there can be no TRUE comparisons between the two. -
Thinking about m15x but man the Clevo 860TU
