    Heya

New here, been reading alot about this new laptop of alienwares and been seriously considering buying one.

But I had a few things I can't find answers for.

    1. I want 8 gigs of ram, but the 1.1k is a bit steep. I called AW and asked if they can put in 1 4 gig chip for me, and i can upgrade but they said they cant..which seemed wierd but w/e. How much do 4 gig chips run for these days? Would it be cost effective if i go with dual 2 gig chips and buy 2 4 gig ones a lil later? I can't find the chips for sale online atm.

    2. How often would AW come out with new models of laptops? Say if i waited a few months, should i wait more to get the next model or will this one be around for a while? Or would they just add new customization parts to this one?

    Thanks in advance
    D

It's $350/$400 bucks in newegg/tigerdirect for each 4gb module (yeah those modules r really expensive).

M17x was released day 2 of this month man lol.

With most companies, you can expect a refresh about once a year. For Alienware, it seems to be about 1 to 1.5 years. The M17 and original M17X came fairly close together, but that's pretty rare for alienware.

Cool...So its cheaper from what your saying to get 8 gigs of ram on your own rather than going thru alienware big?

Typically speaking, building any computer is cheaper on your own. However, since not many people have the technical know-how material, or skill, most of us take to letting a manufacturer (for a fee) do all the work.

In addition, their assembly usually looks better, offer a warranty, and you don't have to worry about compatiblity from mixing different components.
