I am actually thinking to replace my WXGA screen with WUXGA for M15x. One link I found was here...
http://yallstore.com/laptop-screen-alienware-area-51-m15x-154-inch-widescreen-wuxga-p-9760.html
Do you think it's the right one I should get? Basically the best WUXGA for M15x has to be:
1. Glossy
2. LG
Is this the right one and good one? I will try to call and see if this is Samsung or LG and I will make sure it's gonna be LG before I place an order. Any suggestions will be deeply appreciated.

A follow-up. What's the ID for LG Glossy WUXGA, if anybody knows, so I can ask for the specific ID from the online stores?
-
Once you get the part number from someone who has one of these, My guide for the M17 may be of some assistance to you.
Be sure to use a gentle touch as some of the parts can be fragile.
Enjoy your new screen Angelakers. -
I am not sure if anybody has any ideas...I tried to look at the screens for Alienware 15.4" WUXGA and another thread says that there's actually no 15.4" LG Glossy WUXGA available? Anybody knows the answer? Anybody with M15x and WUXGA can tell me what the part number the screen is? Let me know.

Is this the Glossy screen?
-
nope, that's the WUXGA matte option.
-
The glossy WUXGA screen is available here:
http://www.screentekinc.com/Alienware__Area-51-family-notebooks-lcd-screens.shtml
It says call for price so it may be a lot. -
Doesn't seem to worth it, most screens are less than $150 now and if that one is $500, it's just too much to pay for the screen which doesn't have huge impact on the view...
-
I agree. I guess that company is trying to make a fortune off of a dismantled 15X.
For the cost of two of those screens you could almost get a new 15X from A.W. -
A ridiculously inconsistent description of the LG Philips WUXGA screen. If you take a look at this page, http://www.lcds4less.com/lg_philips-notebook-screens.shtml, all the LP154WU1s are matte, and some do not have the backlight option. I think I just need to stick with the one which has the following:
Screen Type: Liquid Crystal Display with TFT Active Matrix with 1 CCFL backlight
That's probably the best thing I can do. -
Can you post some pics on how the change the screen and if you have to break through plastic stickers or anything they might notice if you have to send the laptop back for repairs.
I thought about upgrading my screen but i still got 2 years of warranty left and I dont want to lose them.
Thanx -
Here is a link to a how-to i did:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=370113
There are no stickers or security of any kind. Just be careful when removing the bezel.
Also, being as it's still under warranty, have you called Alienware to see how much the upgrade would cost? -
Will the inverter from the wxga+ screen work for the wuxga matte screen?
-
Yes, it's the same one. I switched screens between my M9750 (wxga) and my M17 (wuxga) a few months ago and all is perfect.
-
I just tried steps from rob's guide and after removing the screws from the screen, I was not able to remove the bezel, since it seemed like there was somthing holding it back near the webcam and the bottom. Are there extra steps for removing the bezel from the m15x?
-
No, it's for the M9750 and the M17. Sorry, in my earlier post about the inverter,
I said the inverters were the same. I don't know about the 15X. In all likelyhood they are the same but you better check.
-
So...is there anyone who took apart the m15x that far? I remember there was a thread with disassembly pics, but I can't find it..
-
thanx for the info i called alienware for the upgrade but i have to send it back in. They wont send the screen so i can do it myself becouse that will void the warranty.
-
in that tread he took everything appart except for the screen.
i'm still holding back a bit, fear of voiding the warranty
if i understand correct you can use the same wire of the wxga screen without taking of the keyboard?
you just have to disconnect it from the wxga and then put it in the wuxga? -
There seems to be a lot of different types of just this screen models e.g (A1K2,A1K3,TLA1, etc) which one specifically works in the m15x?
-
we only know which ones work specifically with the m15x from the knowledgebase on the website, which was already posted. it's for a single CCFL matte WUXGA screen. that was the only other screen offered with the m15x.
IN THEORY, most 15.4" screens should fit
IN REALITY, noone has any idea. I don't know too many people that have hundreds of dollars to buy up a bundle of screens for laptops to swap them around. -
Well the models I posted are in parenthesis after the model name LP154WU1. Is that just revision number or something?
For example: http://www.screenaid.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=28355 or this: http://cgi.ebay.com/A+-NEW-LP154WU1...temQQimsxZ20090613?IMSfp=TL090613239005r21389 -
As well you should. In addition to being very expensive to replace ($300-$600 and up) screens are one of the hardest things to repair on a laptop. Only the most highly skilled individuals should attempt it, and should only do so if the present cost of your computer is worth it.

Hey guys! I went through with the upgrade! I bought the screen off of ebay (lp154wu1), and swapped out my previous screen. It was actually a lot more difficult than I imagined because of a few snags related to how it is with the m15x. The connector for the m15x is a bit harder to pull out of the lcd and also a lot harder to put into the new screen. Also, the inverter connector of this particular screen wasn't long enough to reach the inverter so I had to make it longer using the old connector and some solder. All in all the upgrade was a bit cumbersome but the screen itself is amazing! After going through with it, I don't recommend this procedure for those unfamiliar with taking apart laptops and would rather pay the (reasonable) quote that alienware was giving for this upgrade (they quoted me ~230 and I paid 120 for the screen) I think its worth the extra money for the inexperienced to have the piece of mind of having a professional do it.
If you want to buy the screen, I bought it off ebay from this one seller (he has a couple more) and his packaging and the panel itself is really good (no dead pixels or smudges/shipping damage) and his packaging was awesome for the screen, no way it could have gotten damaged actually
. Anyway, I highly recommend the screen upgrade. The amount of screen estate you gain is astonishing.
Link to seller I got it from ( http://myworld.ebay.com/lcdtech889/ ) -
That's great to hear!
That certainly is a more difficult swap on the 15x than on the M17. I real glad you got it working. -
Yeah, Im sure if you got the right release of the panel (I got the tl b1 model), then the inverter cable would be long enough, but my compromise works just as well.
-
Did you take any picture during the process so you can make a how-to guide?
-
I also bought a screen on ebay 2 weeks ago could arive anytime but its not a tl b1 but if i remember correctly it is an a1 k1 whats the difference between the numbers?
Was it hard to remove the black front of the lid? -
How can you tell which screen you need either the tl b1 or a1 k1??? I plan on doing this upgrade myself. Thanks for any info. God Bless
-
Okay listen, Having experienced both screens. I bought the 1440x900 originally and when i sent it back for repair (hinge), they gave me 1920x1200 option. I hated it at first, but the amazing resolution and the clarity of the screen is immense. Blacks are blacker than black, colours are so vibrant. And i think it would suck in glossy, it would strain the eyes alot more than it already does.
Leave it for matte, i was a glossy guy - i still am. But matte for this option is perfect. -
i dont know what the letters are standing for but if the serie numbers are the same it will fit
i'll post if the cable is long enough when i get mine should be next week -
It wasn't that hard take off the screen. Just unscrew the 6 screws and start on the top right with a small flathead and run it through the outer edge and the scren comes right off.
The difference between the models is just the different revs made specifically for one manufacturer, with the proper mounts and the (in my case) I guess includes inverter cable length. As for the exact model, I think that the current people who have the screen can tell us using everest about the last two letters/numbers. For example in everest for me says LP154WU1-TLB1 so I'm guessing the wuxga users can tell us what model AW uses. -
You might want to think about where you use your 'puter. In my house I can't have a glossy screen because I'm surrounded by windows. A glossy screen then is like a mirror and you can see yourself but not what's on the screen.
-
I can confirm that the LTN154W1-L01 from samsung fits in the m15x and works.
I recieved the screen yesterday and after I put it in I noticed that the resulotion was the same. Then I check the serie number what I forgot to do before I put it in and it was the wrong one.
When I get the right screen I'll take some picture of the process on how i changed the screen. Its not hard it just takes some patience. The only thing that might be a problem is the connecter on the back of the screen. You might want to call in a helping hand to hold the screen. But I will take pictures of it when I get the right screen.
Thinking to get M15x WUXGA screen to replace my WXGA...Advice needed!
