OK. So I ordered the m17x on May 5th and the expected shipping date was June 9th. Obviously, they didn't ship it by then. Afterward, they promised me the week after that, then the week after, then the week after. It's June 25th and still telling me next week.
However, I just got an email and they told me that the laptop case is still in backordered and the new shipping date is July 19th. I can't handle this anymore. They keep delaying my order and I never cared, but this time they took it too far. I am canceling my order first thing tomorrow morning.
Did anyone got a similar email?
-
they're delaying another month because of the CASE?! Unbelievable. Why on EARTH would they not ship the freakin' computer, and then send the case separate when it's in?!
EDIT: now, did you mean case as in the chassis? That's probably what you meant. I was thinking like, laptop case. Like a bag of some sort. Heh. Okay, no more posting with Scotch in my hands. -
I mean the case of the laptop. It includes the screen and the webcam. I don't believe this company.
This is the email that I just got:
Dear .............,

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and assure you that we are doing everything in our power to expedite the process of obtaining the part(s). If you have any questions regarding your order, please do not hesitate to contact our sales department by replying to this e-mail.
Thank you for choosing Alienware. -
Inebriated posting tsk tsk tsk -
sorry to hear you have decided to cancel bebarhood.
i cannot believe that they didnt foresee the great demand on their new baby and over ordered. its not as if the chassis would be sitting in the wharehouse for long. -
Did you noticed that if I order my m17x from the .com site mine will arrive faster than yours ( 7days). HOW in the world AW is able to justify your delay and in the other hand they offer a 7 day delivery time for the new customers. NOT BAD !!
-
This just isn't how you do business. I mean seriously, fans have waited MONTHS for the M17x, the motherboard / RAM will be old news come August, we're at the end of June, and they still are not shipping. What is this company doing? were they just making cosmetic changes to their 3d models for the laptop for 7 months? This computer is just like the M1730 and its 8 months late. I don't understand how you guys are still dealing with them and I really applaud you for cancelling your order. I really suggest you check out the M1730, its an absolutely fantastic machine... and it shipped out to me 1 day after I ordered it. good luck
-
-
Which is why im waiting until christmas before upgrading
Less baglog and more flaw corrections!
-
-
If looks are of no importance to you, then buy the M1730. But Alienware buyers don't just want performance. They want to be able to say "I've got an Alienware" and make heads turn. -
-
Very, very true. It's like a girl who knows she's fit: If you don't like her, somebody else will.
-
We apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced.
I'd like to assist in any way possible. Please feel free to reply with your email/account # and I will assist in any way possible.
Thank you,
-
Bebarhood,
Got the same e-mail. Do not understand how they can advertise 7 day shipping and we (and others) who have been patiently waiting for weeks are getting shafted. -
I'm sure I will be getting the same email today. I bet you can change your order to the chassis without the illuminated keyboard and it would ship.
Either way, this sucks and is very bad news. -
I respect your decision to overpay for style, many people buy designer jeans for the name only, to each his own, but I certainly get the looks with the m1730, and, well, i waited 2 days to receive it after ordering. -
If things don't work out with Alienware I will either be getting a M1730 or a Fragbook from Falcon Northwest.
-
For some things alienware is actually the cheapest i believe, if u want a 8800gtx with the 2.5 ghz proc anyway
-
Kaiserphoenix Notebook Evangelist
De@thknight>True since you cant order the M1730 with a single GPU solution.
-
Indeed, btw is it possible to get Sagers in the uk for similar prices? As if it is i'm buying one of them as u can get so much more for not much more money, ok looks not quite as gd but the parts in that notebook are very impressive for that price anyway.
-
sager is cheaper than AW. although their looks arent too good i heard their build quality is excellent. i guess its a ok tradeoff.
-
Sorry few of questions in this post:
1. Can u get a sager laptop delivered to the UK? I looked on the website quickly and i suspect i can, any1 able to confirm?
2. I tried saying calculation UK shipping and tax and it didn't add any VAT on any1 know something about this?
3. Do i need UPS Worldwide express shipping to get it to the uk or can i just use the standard?
Thanks DK
P.s. i can live with a trade off of looks if the improvement in build quality and performance is as much as i potentially see there! -
Thank you guys for your responses. What should I get instead of the m17x? The m1730 is an option. Any other suggestions?
-
Just from a quick look at it i would definitely consider that Sager
-
But the Sager looks very ugly and is much heavier than the m17x. What was that laptop that started preordiing the Monti chip already?

Alienware-Armando Company Representative
Thank you. -
-
Boom- order canceled. Money should be back in my account within 2-3 days. Here I come Sager NP9262!!
-
Haha, i just hope i can do the same lol
not the canceling bit ofc....the sager bit -
Skidude,
Good for you man. I am doing the same by the end of the day. I might get the m1730 -
-
i understand that there may be a need to get the best and the latest...
heck i remember selling Nike Jordans in the 80's and folks will pay a premium to be the first out on the block for em...
but this is not sneakers... nor is this something that costs $200~400 (depending how much you love the Jordans)
this is something that costs in excess of $3000...
dont you want to "wait and see"?
i must admit, i go look at the AW website frequently... and i guess a cookie or something.. they know when i'm back too... lol...
i stop at every m17x ads on computer mags... and it is beautiful...
but i just cant imagine jumping into something and being the first "guinea pig..."
heck... i was one of the first to buy the e39 body BMW540i... but later revisions came out with nicer variations... and i kinda regretted it then too...
just my two cents... -
The screen construction is really solid, screen and case is amazing, ZERO heating issues, even during intense games this thing is quiet and cool.
Clossy screen surrounding the LCD, rubber stoppers are nice and in the right places, the style is really nice, and it just looks great. Performance is nearly rediculously fast with RAID 0 enabled.
Love it, Love it, Love it... -
I'm actually glad I canceled my order now. I'm leaning heavily toward the Sager though because of the price (not to mention desktop processors
) but the M1730 will still be in my thoughts as a consideration.
-
How long until they ship it?
-
Well according to Trias10 he got his within a week!
-
i also looked at the dell XPS M1730
BUT i thought there was a press release a few weeks ago about dell letting the XPS fade into the background and concentrating their efforts on the AW M15/17X -
Show me that press release...
Does it really matter, even if they did? they'll support the PC for 4 years if you get 4 year warranty, also, you're buying the machine NOW. I don't care if they phase out XPS because I love my current machine.
Anyway, they specifically said XPS will not be phased out. -
http://yourblog.dell.com/2008/05/13/calling-all-gamers/
dell is not dropping the xps line. that was just an error from wall street journal. -
I like the M1730, but the desktop processor and the cooling system of the NP9262 cannot be beat.
The NP9262, with both 8800s overclocked, runs cooler than my watercooled desktop. After 5 hours of Crysis, max temp for the video cards is 63 degrees. The NP9262 has 4 massive heatsinks with fans for each one (one for each video card, one for cpu, one for chipset+RAM). It even plops a giant fan on top of the RAM chips! There is also a user toggle, Fn + 1, which switches all fans to full blast, regardless of internal temps. This is awesome for gamers and overclockers.
Just to give a little taste, my NP9262, overclocked video, runs the Company of Heroes internal benchmark, 1280x800, all settings on Ultra, Dx9 mode, 227 avg fps
The M1730 is a great machine though. It weighs less than the Sager, and is more mobile, plus has built in overclocking of the CPU (although see Anandtech's review of this for actual performance gains). I figured, since I rarely move my DTR laptop around, I may as well just get the Sager, since at that point, it's ludicrous to consider weight differences since both machines are over 10 lbs. -
I love when someone calls the M1730 More mobile.
Anyway it is truth, the M1730 actually uses all mobile parts so it will be a greener machine (as green as a 230watt PS can be)
I need to stop i'm beginning to feel like I work for dell. I love my laptop <3 and i hope it lasts for a few years -
error from wall street, thats a firstcheers for clearing that up mate.
-
Seems i am resigned back to the m15x due to the cost of buying the sager and shipping it to the UK or buying it from a UK distributor at an insanely inflated price over the us one
-
-
Or maybe it's only in the U.S.
yea, welcome backYou make it sound so painful..
-
I don't mind having an m15x i'm just annoyed that there is a potentially far better deal out there but i can't get at it. The m15x is not a bad laptop for specs but as said build quality issues are there and the Sager beats it on price, specs and build quality only losing out on looks. Anyway m15x is back at the top of the list. DAMN UK IMPORT TAXES and SHIPPING COSTS
-
He he this m17x thing seems to be a repeat of the whole UK m15x fiasco we experienced a while back.
-
-
nickbarbar, don't get me wrong on the design of the m1730. I have a 17" Dell myself.
But Alienware just has this "whow expensive powerhouse roflmaobbq"-image that Dell just lacks (in my opinion).
Besides, I would like to see Dell clean house at Alienware. I live in Belgium and when a problem occurs with my laptop, a dell technician comes over and changes whatever piece is broken. All in under 5 days. (I have 3 years extended warranty). So why can't Alienware?
And whatever you end up buying, you learn to love it
This is just got out of hands
