    Weird.

Oh mann. I just wanted to be sure..I looked at other views and it does in fact have a mic...hehe :p

But imo, they should be pretty good

If their a rebranded steel series, then I can just look at the reviews for the steel series, and then buy the cheaper, more comfortable Alienware ones, with a cool alienhead on each side :D!

What an AW product at a good price? $80 that is not bad for a headset of that style.

first its called steel series :D
and they do NOT suck. Im a professional e-sports gamer, I have tried many headsets more then I can remember. There was only 1 headset better then this steel series and thats the sennheiser pc350. Problem with the PC350 is that its really expensive. Not only is the steel series the next best thing but it also has 7.1 surround sound.

Dont say something sucks if you never even tried it before let alone spell what you are dissing right :O

I dont mean to come off harsh but its just my opinion.

My apologies for inserting the wrong link in my original post. The 5H V2's are in fact the same price, $80. The one in the link includes a USB soundcard, which adds the $40. The link to the original ones are broken.

    Duane

    EDIT: Corrected the link: http://www.steelseries.com/int/products/audio/5hv2/information

First its called Steel series steel sound 5v2 so YOU are wrong :) .

And im a professional gamer myself here in brazil and plus im a audiophile, and i really doubt that you tested more headphones/sets than me and yeah steel sound actually sucks :D .

TBH i dont really like headsets but if i need to choose one it will be sennheiser pc350, but for me it dont work because i dont really like they with USB soundcards (they impedence is prettly high) and as the championships that really matters here are in lan (and the onboard soundcards in make me want to suicide) without doubt i should use pc166.

Its simply stupid to think/say/imagine that 5v2 is better than a audio technica ad900 or a sennheiser 595 (or even a sennheiser hd555/audio technica ad700). 5v2 just cant be compared to a good headphone in sound quality, bass, or soundstage (what really matters if you are a gamer).

If you ever used a good headphone and still think that 5v2 is good, no offense but take the wax out of your ears buddy.

PS: i use a sennheiser 595 low impedance edition ATM.

I know I'm going to regret stepping in on this debate, but he never said that the 5v2's were better than the audio technica or the senheisser's even. Just because the other cans are better than the 5v2 doesn't mean that the 5v2 'sucks'. They are good. Besides the cans you're using are twice as expensive.

OMG I must be old! They were headsets long before they included mics, because they have 2 speakers... one for each ear, hence the set!? lol

I used to be a professional musician and now would be considered a semi professional and I would say that earphones are very subjective, I use Sony closed backs for monitoring mixes (which should be flat and not subjective) and I have a set of plantronics open ear for gaming and computer use etc. If they sound great to you then they are the right ones.

When something get owned quite as hard 5hv2 get by a hd555, in my opnion it sucks :p .

Anyway a sennheiser hd555 is $89.95 on amazon and a 5hv2 is $75.85 without soundcard and $90.85 with soundcard. So they are at the same price range and sennheiser hd555 is like 3x better than 5hv2 :D .

You are totally right, the sennheiser HD555 and 595 are amazing headphones. Spec and sound quality wise(though it is subjective) are MUCH better then the Steel Series for sure!

The problem is that we are NOT talking about headphones. But Headsets!

What is a headset? well simple put it is a headphone with a mic attached to it. Let us take a look at the sennheiser 555 and 595. hmmm whats this?! no mic?! Now you might like carrying a headphones and then a separate mic when ever you go LAN but I dont. Also unfortunately for me, I dont have deep pockets to spend $300 on headphones then 50 more on an awesome mic. So what am I to do if I want good headphones? Well after much research I found the Steel Series 5v2. Which for the $80 price range were amazing! you get way more then you pay for. Only the sennheiser PC350 was a better headset(but also 2x the price).

Let me use you as an example. you are an audiophile. ok. you got the sennheiser HD595. Why didnt you get the sennheiser HD800? they blow the out of the HD595. why? because the HD595 only cost $300 while the HD800 costs $1,400. Now take this concept but apply it to the range we are talking about.

Well if you dont noticied i was mainly talking about PC350 and PC166 who are headsets :p. Well a HD555 is on $80 price range as you can see here:

    http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD555-HD-555-Audiophile-Headphones/dp/B0001FTVDQ

just like 5hv2 and i dont know in EUA but in brazil a zalman MIC to attach to a headphone cable costs less than my lunch (its not a professional level mic but it does the job lol). But tbh i dont use mic in lan because my team is all together :D .

Well HD595 is $177 and tbh i was going to get a HD650 but if i do i will need a headphone amp what make impossible to use it in lans. BTW i got your point but it dont make sense since the price range is the same :p

oh man in my first post i even said the PC350 was better >.> There was never any doubt there. The PC350 is the best headset on the planet(probably :p). I just checked amazon, the prices for sennheiser headphones went down A LOT! from the last time I checked. The PC350 also became much cheaper. by $100 actually. its going for $140. Might just get it :D

Both the AW and SteelSeries have a "16 Hz - 28 kHz" frequency response. Is that considered good or is it lacking in low-end/bass response? I think THX standard is 20 Hz - 20 kHz, but I'm not sure if that's considered the "standard" to judge high quality.

I think 16-28 would be better because it's response is over a larger range. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

The sennheiser hd555 get 12Hz - 38.5kHz. Im not really sure what that means.

I also like the ear sets with them, as my ears are that shape and not circles.

I might have to look into getting a pair of these.
