I think it looks good, but if you don't really need 8GB of RAM, I would go to 4GB and then pick up a blu-ray player. Just so that you can see the bluray movies on the RGB. Only really need 8GB if your doing some serious multi tasking, or dealing with large CAD or photo shop things. But it does look like a pretty great setup. Kinda jealous. I've been waiting forever and at this point I know if I ordered that dell would release the 5870 GPUs. Ahh, the wait continues. Enjoy that system!
-
I would suggest that you get rid of the messenger bag. It is too heavy to carry this computer with its power cord and a textbook on one shoulder. Take the backpack.
-
Very true. Backpack all the way.
-
I'm a little older and the back pack will look funny on me,lol
I also got the 8g mem for the price of 4g mem ,so i said what the hell, you live once.
Now if the 5870 comes out in like a week, ill be p*ssed..
On another note,The alien heads don't do much for me ,but the quality of the
chassis was the decision factor for me. -
Great system I just have one thing to add. I would get a ssd as a boot drive at the minimum. You cannot believe the difference in performance for the price! Unless you have the need for a full terrabyte I would get one 256gb ssd and one 500gb for data. You will feel the difference!
-
If you're using the sale that's going on right now you can't get 4 gigs only 6 or 8.
-
Yeah i agree,i got the two 500g to put one in another lappy i have, and going to buy the intel ssd 160 ssd2 for this lappy.Dell doesn't advertise what
type of ssd they offer (or specs) and didn't want to take the chance.
BTW,i see your from LI,small world,im from LI myself. -
Yup, your right and i picked the 8G because i don't like mismatched sticks
.
What would of been really nice, is a manual control for the fans.
-
Might be added in the next BIOS update.
-
AW/Dell uses Samsung SSDs.
-
Yes, I am live and work in Suffolk county....Good luck and congrats on the system! Those Intel SSD's are benching really high, you won't be disappointed.
-
I agree about the Mix match ram. If you get 6gb of ram you get One 2gb chip and a 4gb chip.
-
Congrats! Stick with the messenger bag as well, I think it looks much nicer then the backpack. I have one and it is subdued enough for a business meeting, but bad enough for a rave lan party with room to spare!
-
You will be shocked at the weight after a time... but you can always get one later
-
Wow,I'm in Suffolk too.The world just got smaller,lol..
Thanks everyone,it feels good being a part of the M17X forum family.Your all good people.
Now i have to wait, and i have a feeling its gonna be a long one. -
Yes, it's going to be a long haul...lol. But, hang in there it's worth the wait! I am in Holbrook FYI. If you haven't seen one in person yet you can goto best buy in Patchogue and see and touch one. They have a black one there also if you are curious about how the color looks in person. And, while you are there see if you can resist the urge to pick up a new game for when it arrives!
-
Your a few miles from me.West Islip here.Yeah good idea, i think i might do that and check one out locally.Ive owned a few m1730's in the past, problem with them was they warped like a banana from hot and cold cycles
.Thats why the build quality is important to me.
-
I would extend the warranty if you can
-
Oh this baby is never going to warp! LOL Its built like a Sherman tank! And probably weighs as much! And, I have never seen such a bright and vibrant screen! Mind you the screen at best buy is the really crappy 1440x900 but you can get an idea on the weight and quality of the build. I must warn you though after you see it in person the wait will become agonizing to say the least! Wow, you are really close! After you get yours we should have an Alienware meet at Starbucks on Sunrise hwy in Patchogue! LOL
As far as the extended warranty's go I would agree with getting one only if you are not a person who upgrades often. I personally rarely keep a laptop/computer longer then a year so for me it doesn't make sense. I also don't take it out of the house much so I didn't see the need for accidental damage either. YOMV -
The Messenger Bag as Cool as it looks was too heavy on my one shoulder, I ended up having some back pains. Now it could be because of my bed not sure as I sleep in 2 different beds but I just know that after I switched back to my backpack I was having alot less back pains.
Tired of waiting,pulled the trigger..Take a look..
