If you go to Alienware's US website, and click "products", look at the list. The last item says "Alienware Trade-In". Or you can just click the link below.

Well, it's more Dell-wide, but still. Seems like the Trade-In program returns for the time being. But like most trade-ins, you're not going to get much.
It's also undergoing changes (possibly), so don't take everything seriously.

Pretty pathetic value they give for their own products. 700 bucks for an 18 with SSD and 880m sli which, until the new ones ship, is the most recent and powerful product they sold. In fact, based on the value page there. Everything under the 965 just falls into the "other" video card category. You would think a company would give a little more knowing they are retaining their customers through this program. Especially since I am sure they use at least some refurbished parts and include them in new products. Dirty!

This program was a joke before, and is still a joke now, like the rest of Alienware. Nothing to see here, move along.

First 150 trade-ins get a $100 Dell Promo eGift Card and up to $1000 credit towards gaming gear and an Alienware PC.
(Though I'm not sure how the latter works. I really don't. Maybe at time of purchase?)
Ehh... -
Come on they will give me $400 for the AW 17R3 in my sig rofl

Omg - $400 - Are you serious?!

Just goes to show how little they value their own products. It's sad.
The markup on this 2015-2016 generation of products must be at least 300%. The AW 15 and AW 17 share internals, and the AW 13 shares with the XPS 13.

I guess you can make a cheaper deal with a discount talking by phone than using their trade-in.

Computer trade-in programs have always been a joke. Getting severely low-balled is not something new. You can absolutely count on being screwed by any program like this. It's not limited to computers either. Car trade-in are also a joke. They do need to make a profit, but they don't need to offer 20% of the value... that's just wrong. Turning 20 to 30% profit would be a reasonable expectation, but they're not offering trade-in with a mind toward being reasonable. Not only do they low-ball the original owner, they typically take advantage of the new buyer and charge far more than the product is worth. You are almost always better off selling anything outright. Unless you are shopping for a brand new product, buying the product from the previous owner rather than a dealer is almost always the wisest and most affordable choice. Buying anything from a dealer or vendor used "as is" with no warranty is beyond stupid because you are paying more for something than it's worth and getting nothing in return compared to buying from a private party.

More then DELL is going to give you.
I've myself done the same for people about 4 times this year. In some cases after selling off whatever and considering my time invested, I pretty much did it at cost, BUT I made friends and eventually some repeat business from it. If I was a larger business that could use that effort as a force multiplier, I can only imagine how useful it would be, so I am surprised more companies don't try it.
The few companies that give good trade ins, fair trade ins, no one uses. People pay more for a name then for quality service. DELL is an example of this, where their name might have meant something decent once, they're mostly now, just a name, without the quality or reassurance. No matter how much you pay and no matter what service your guaranteed, your likely to have an issue with almost anything you buy from them. Its ridiculous.Last edited: Nov 1, 2015Mr. Fox likes this.
