uninstall old drivers. Reboot in safe mode and do driver sweep. Reboot into regular windows and install the new drivers.

I just did all of that. And its not working. It says that its installed successfully. With warnings, I click to try and see warnings and it just says installed successful. This is frustrating.

And when i uninstall old drivers and restart i get a WMI error. (im on my other pc atm. im afraid to try drivers on here as well lol)

The m17x has two HD 4870's

This always comes up from time to time... Perhaps I need to get that sticky with FAQ's going :)

Ok - you have to disable Windows Automatic Driver Installation. This should always be done (if you like to control your own drivers or frequently uninstall and reinstall devices).

    1. Start Menu ---> Right Click the COMPUTER link and select PROPERTIES
    2. In the PROPERTIES window, left sidebar ---> ADVANCED SYSTEM SETTINGS
    3. Click the HARDWARE TAB
    4. Device Installation section ---> Choose NO, NEVER INSTALL...
    5. Apply Changes and close open windows, reboot.

In regards to driver sweeper, not necessary. its an old app which has not been updated in some time (I wouldn't trust it until its updated again).

To bypass the driversweeper step, do this:

    1. Uninstall current display driver via Programs and Features Control Panel
    2. Reboot into Safe Mode (depress F8 @ the BIOS screen until you see the safe mode option)
    3. Run CCleaner's Registry Module and fix/remove any leftover ATI driver registry traces found
    4. Reboot
    5. Install the new driver

    Try this:

    1. Open Notepad and load c:\ATI\Support\10-7_mobility_vista_win7_ 64_ dd_ccc\Config\InstallManager.cfg and change the entry "WorkaroundInstall=false" to "WorkaroundInstall=true."
    2. Go to ATI|Support|10-7_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc and run Setup.exe, which launches Install Manager.
    3. Select Install|Express|Next and agree/accept all options
    4. Click Yes (Reboot).
    5. When Win7 restarts, the 10.7 drivers should be installed.
