Alright its time i swapped out the DVD player this bad boy came with. I plan to install a BD-RE, the only Slot Loading SATA drive ive found is the Panasonic UJ-235A. My question is how in hell i get at the drive to swap it out. Ive removed the plate that covers the Hard Drives/Memory but i need to get deeper to get at the drive, has anyone done this yet and if so did that take pictures o_0?

My other question is for anyone that did not reformat there m17x like i did if they had the foresight to save all the wonderful backgrounds/avatars it came with and send it to me :).

You are going to have to take the entire laptop apart (see the service manual available for download at support.dell.com).

    Here is the general sequence:

    1. Remove bottom panel to access screws for palmrest and touchpanel
    2. Remove palmrest and touchpanel
    3. Remove keyboard
    4. Remove magnesium cover

It isn't hard, just very time consuming....

    RTFM

Wallpapers can be got from the website and I'd expect them to also be on the DVDs that came with the lappy.

For warranty reasons I would say yes. I'd even pay a little extra to get it from them.

Yes, which means you can also call Dell spare parts if you ordered one before the burner was available.

I did the same as you hoping to add the bd burner later as it wasn't available until after I ordered. Just found out the 235a is the only one also and its REALLY hard to find and super expensive. Hope it comes down a few bucks soon. There are tons of tray loaded bd burners for like 300's but not slot load. GL to you!
