I see they've added "Free Fall Protection" to the hard drives. I wonder if the ones we've ordered before still come with that.

    Sucks
Check your e-mail, you would have received an order confirmation - I don't remember having that choice when I ordered on 8th March, no.

cant the email is on my work computer.
Im 100% sure that option is new, as i remember reading the the americans had to pay 50$ for it,
And on the Uk site we didnt have the option not 2 select it.

Fingers cross, as it will be going right back to AW for the flashy lights on the keyboard

Guys I have two questions for you.I know you all have done your research on the Alienware m15x, so instead of starting another thread I thought I should just ask here. I am planning to get the m15x for my brother who just completed his O'levels. So my first question is: Could I buy a hard drive later and use it as the 'smart bay hard drive'. Please note I am not talking about the main hard drive. I was wondering whether the smart bay hard drive from alienware comes with a 'special' hard drive caddy or something like that. If that is NOT the case then it will be cheaper to buy a hard drive later and use it in the smart bay slot.My next question is that, do you have to select the 'Alienware Illuminated Alienfx Keypad' to get the backlit keyboard(I know its pretty obvious but just checking). My last question is, could you buy the extended warranty anytime within the first year or do you HAVE to get it while purchasing the laptop? Thanks guys.

    Hi nahiyan13
some good questions there and we will try to help.

the smart bay HD replaces your cd/dvd tray. there is also a extra battery that also replaces the draw so you can interchange them when you like. this can be bought at any time in the future (as long as they are in stock).you will only be able to buy this hard drive from AW. alternatively you could buy an external hard drive from any high street superstore.

ive just checked the AW uk site and on all 3 options it is already ticked and comes as standard.

ive notice in the last month that people have updated their warantie from 1 year to 2 or 3 due to all the technical problems they have been having.
you will need to check with AW customer service and ask if you can upgrade at a later stage within the first year.

    hope this helps.
    jim

Firstly thank you for your response.

I think I probably did not make myself clear on the smart bay hard drive bit.I am aware that the smart bay battery goes into the cd/dvd slot(done that with my ASUS R1F), but my questions is whether I can buy a hard drive later from say 'Ebuyer' and use it as the smart bay hard drive. That is why I was asking whether there is a smart bay 'caddy' provided by alienware at the time of purchase so that I can just get a hard drive ,put it in the caddy and use with the alienware m15x.

    Thanks again.

EDIT:In the base option starting at £949.90, the 'Alienfx illuminated keypad' is not standard, you have to select it and that is why I was asking. Cheers.

from hat i have heard that once purchasing an m15x you are then entitled to the upgrade program which gives u massive discounts on hardware, so i would buy the base then ask to upgrade to smart bay later at discount. I hope the sae applies for the uk as it does the usa
