I was just wondering if any of you are thinking of extending your warranty with Dell.

I phoned them today, and was quoted a fairly reasonable £96 (for an extra two years on top of the year that you already have) - or £192 for an extra FOUR years (five in total with the free first year).

I know that's quite a large amount to hand over for something that you may NEVER have to use - but past experience with a variety of laptops has taught me that 'out of warranty' repairs and replacements (batteries, screens, power supplies) can cost quite a bit, too.

Also - if I was to sell my M11x in the future (not that I can see this happening at the mo) would I be able to transfer this warranty to the buyer?

I would take the 3 years warranty if I were you. Actually I have a 3 year warranty on my machine. You probably could also go "complete care" where you get you notebook fixed even if it was an accident (e.g. dropping on the floor).

In my experience, stuff usually breaks after 1-2 years...

    Thanks for the reply, Wattos.

Yeah - I was thinking that would be the better option. I'm very tempted.

Sorry to ask this question again, but would I be able to transfer a warranty to another person if I sold on the m11x? I have a habit of selling things as soon as I get bored with them. ;)

edit: on the other hand - if I was to keep it for the next three years, would I be able to re-extend the warranty once this one was up?

I got the 2 year, I figure by the time my warranty is up I will be buying the newest m11x model anyways.

Yes - that's the thing. I'm pretty bad at buying new gadgets - and then selling them on as soon as the 'next best thing' comes along. :s

I think I'll pay the £96 for the extra two years - and just hope that I can transfer the warranty if I do decide to sell it within that time.

The strange thing is that I had ANOTHER phone call from Dell - this time it was a different lady trying to sell me the same warranty for close to an extra £50. I really do wonder how they 'organise' themselves at that place. :) They're more than happy to keep getting in contact with you when they smell money - yet E-mails etc will go unanswered for days if it's a problem that's going to cost them.
