    Hi all,

Is it normal that you cant get the M15X with a SSD in the UK, yet you can in the US?

I have a nasty suspicion that im going to have to buy and install it separately and Ive never even opened a pc up to look inside! How easy is it, and can anyone recommend a suitable SSD to go in the M15X, that I can buy in the UK?

Sorry - lots of questions, but many thanks in advance

Two options for you: if you have friends in US buy the laptop from there and have them ship it to UK. Or (however this will void the warranty) buy the SSD and take the laptop to a PC repair centre. They will replace it for you, but like I said this will void the warranty.

Well, there are more options. Buying from the USA would mean you would need a 3 year warranty for it to withstand internationally. However it's a bit extreme to deal with the hassle of importing just for the sake of the SSD.

Secondly, AFAIK , changing the hard drive does not void the warranty as long as you keep the original hard drive and place it back in if it ever needs repairs done to it.

You honestly wouldn't need a repair centre to install the hard drive, on the M15X its a case of undo-ing 2 screws to get to the innards of the laptop, then another 4 screws to get to the hard drive. Then just swapping the SSD into the laptop and installing your OS. Thats reasonbly simple.

You could also ring up dell UK/ go on Dell UK chat and ask for a custom quote with the SSD which I'd be sure they'd probably be able to do for you, though dell might charge more than normal pricing on another retailer such as amazon for this.

If you ordered from the internet and installed it yourself, you'd probably get the best value.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but dont SSD's use a different connection... does the M15x mobo actually support both HDDs, or are they different mobo setups?

I'm only bringing this up because I had this trouble with some Sony Z laptops which were identical in every way.. except the mobo was different for the SSD and spindle drives =/ Thus an upgrade wasnt possible on those platforms =S
