    Hey,

I wanted to upgrade my M17X, I saw Moo's guide for upgrading the CPU and GPU. It all looked quite complicated and I'm not sure if I can do it myself.

Is there anywhere I can send my laptop to be upgraded(shop or service center)???

Anywhere in Atlanta or New York will do.

    Regards,
    Darthmaniac

    Dell?

They do upgrades to my knowledge, not being sarcastic either =]

Just give AW a call and ask for the upgrade and they'll give you a quote =]

    Haha, no worries Dath. =]

I called up to get mine (In Aussie though) upgraded and they quoted me 800 for two new GPU's including shipping - but thats on a VERY old system, Aurora M9700 with 7900 GS cards - so like, 4 years old now.

    :D

Also, go ahead and do it yourself (to get a WAY better deal--instead of 700 per card, you can pay around 400). To do that, you'll have to order it through the spare parts department.

The secondary card comes with the SLi cable, and all the fans are the same.

As long as you follow The Moos guide you can't go wrong. Watch it a few times and follow along as you change your CPU.

Hi there. I got an old M17x-R1 with Nvidia 8600M GT in SLI and want to upgrade these to higher-end graphic cards. Can I go for ATI Mobility HD4870 in CrossfireX like the newer model or stay with GTX 280M SLI? Do I need to replace the fan and SLI cable as well? Thanks

P/S: Is this possible to upgrade to ATI Mobility HD5800 series as well?

I dont think so. Here the issue I had. I had the same specs as you. My goal was to upgrade to dual 9800. It required a New Motherboard. If you open cover where the gpus are. Look at the serial number. If it A02 A03 it only support the 8700gt cards. If you have A06 it will support the 9800gt cards. Now higher Cards I dont know.

The A04 I am unsure of. The reason why the m17x had differnt Motherboards becuse the 9800gt cards use More power vs the 8600 and 8700gt

So with the current M17x-R2 with ATI 4870 CrossfireX what is the highest upgrade option you can get? Will the new Mobility HD5870 fit the board?

The GPU swap is really easy. It took me 15 min the first time - I can do it in less than 10 now (I have been playing around with 4870s and 280ms).

The CPU looks a little trickier.

I don't think the 260m SLI to 280m SLI or 4870 Crossfire upgrade is worth it.

    What CPU do you have?
