Hello all,
I've been reading a lot about the upgrade options. Did some search here but didn't find the answer. My question is if I upgrade to 7 from Vista home premium, will everything work on my M17 (see sig) or do I have to go on a hunt for drivers and stuff like that?
I know people here have upgraded, so I'm just curious what worked and what didn't, say wireless, bluetooth, ATI Cards, keyboard lights, etc, etc.
Also, I know programs are supposed to run fine and all, same with files, but does that really happen on the M17?
Thanks fellas!
By the way, I still have a copy of Windows 7 Beta that MS was offering, just didn't use it. Should I wait for the official release in June if stuff on the M17 doesn't work with the beta upgrade in hopes of having stuff work?

don't do the upgrade if this is your main machine. beta is just for testing.
if you have a backup of your current machine, you can just do the update, it should work fine. but, again, it's just a beta, it's just for testing. -
Thanks dude. That was enough to put the upgrade on hold until the real release comes out this year.
Now that the upgrade question is out of the way, how about the other part of the post? Will Office, AutoCAD, Crysis, COD4, FIFA 2008, Dirt, C++, ATI cards, my settings for system restore, etc, etc and my files be OK with the upgrade?
just lie to me man -
depends. there's an "upgrade" conversion method, which will keep your files intact, but deliver less performance. a clean, fresh install will perform the best, but you'll have to set up the entire system again.

Less performance? OK I don't remember reading about that. How would that work out? Do you have a link or something I can read if you don't want to type the whole explanation down?
Thanks!
(on a side note: what happens to vista after upgrade? gets completely removed?) -
its because your system will be cluttered .... any time you re format it will run faster all the crap is gone and its fresh
vista will finally be gone -
Thanks I get it. It's like comparing a used PC with a reformatted one then.
If that is right then I will go with the upgrade since everything, pretty much, is where it needs to be. 0 erros, 0 issues. All organized. It's pretty new actually, so I don't think the clutter will cause much performance difference then. I will try to keep it that way until the time comes. (let's hope)
Let me ask another question. Is Windows 7 supposed to be smaller than Vista in HDD space? Say if vista uses 10GB, and Windows 7 uses 5GB, the upgrade would add 5GB to my free space? Also, if Vista uses say 20% of my Ram would the upgrade show lower usage, say, 15%?
And what about current system restore points? would they be lost with the upgrade?
Has anyone with an M17 upgraded? -
-
As far as I know the instalation takes 10gb.
But as whizzo sad, a clear installation is better
First I used DualBoot, than only W7 and now DualBoot. The main problem is PunkBuster. Americas Army, BF2 and some other games can not played online on a PB protected server because of the slownes of PunkBuster developers^^
All in all W7 is nice, but it still hase some "problems" related to other developers ... RC is comming out soon, may be than the last issus are solved
Mr.Moo linked you my thread, as you can see there are only links to the Vista64bit drivers. The only new one you "should" use is the W7 Beta driver for the ATI cards.

i only linked it to show it was fully compatible and would work and that he would have every thing

And I added what else he asked for
