    Hi,
is it possible to upgrade my Alienware/Dell warranty from lets say 1 yr basic plan to 4 yr advanced after I already purchased the notebook? I think I heard that it is possible but is there any web resource or would I have to call in and speak with a rep to find out prices, etc. ?

    Thanks!

yes it's possible, you'll need to either call tech support or the warranty department

the price will increase dramatically, I had 1 year basic warranty and called to ask for complete care. To get 1 year complete care the tech agent said it will cost $750 CAD, for 2 years is $1050. For 5 years complete care he said it costs $2200, absolutely rediculous prices. His reason is when you buy the laptop it is discounted as a bundle but once the laptop's sent to you it is considered a service to upgrade the warranty. If you haven't purchased the laptop I highly recommend you get the upgraded warranty before checking out.

You can upgrade later, but if you don't have the laptop yet I advise returning and reordering. Reason being, when I did the same thing, had 1 year basic, and did a 4 year complete care extension, they wanted over $1,200! I was able to talk them down to $930 but that took a lot of work.
    Good luck.

You can check the waranty extension costs HERE. You will need your Service Tag to access the info. Bear in mind, these prices most likely change.

I suggest checking it out online and then contacting Sales. Tell them you want to speak with someone to extend your warranty coverage.

just a question related to complete care....will dell cover damage to the hardware from improper overclocking and the associated increased wear-and-tear(over short-term damage and/or long-term damage)?

dont upgrade to 4 year advanced.

upgrade to a 1 year advanced. less than a year from now, call in and add 2 or 3 more years advanced.

According to the sales rep i spoke to, you can always upgrade your warranty before your warranty ends for no additional cost. if your warranty ends, you have to pay a fee on top of the cost of the warranty.

    Whats the difference between:

    Accidental Damage Services till 2/13/2011 -- 1 year(s) [add $25]

    AND

    Accidental Damage Services - DHS till 2/13/2011 -- 1 year(s) [add $99]

What is the whole DHS thing? The in home stuff? And why is it 100 dollars for 1, 2, 3, and 4 years where as the non DHS is 25 dollars for one year and increases 25 dollars each year you add to it?

    Anyone know?

What country are you in? Dell.com is pretty simple, at least on the m17x R-2:

    http://imgur.com/2666J.png

Basic is a hardware warranty only, no software support. no accidental damage.

Advanced is basic + accidental damage

Premium is advanced + "dduuur i don't know how to use computers" aka: Your Tech Team

getting premium is almost as stupid as getting basic. Go with 1 year advanced and pay to renew your warranty every year for 3 more years. Cheaper than buying 4 years of advanced all at once.

Just a caveat: you must purchase an additional year before the end of your first year, or else you will have to pay a fee to re-activate your warranty (bad).

Umm, lol. I know how to use DELL's laptop configuration tool! :x

But this thread was talking about upgrading the warranty after you purchased your initial warranty.

When I go to my upgrade options after putting in my service tag, I see that. And that is my query. Whats the difference between the DHS and the one above it? If anyone knows, do share please!
