    Hey
Does anyone know if you can get a 4870M video card and a new CPU for the M17x-R2?
Would Dell sell me a new CPU or Vid card and are they easy to install?!

    Thanks!

    Hi redbalrog,
At the current time, the 4870M is the only card available and compatible with the M17X-R2 (that Dell offers and supports). Dell will sell you a new CPU from the spare parts devisions. However, they are firm on keeping the original system configuration for a valid warranty.

    Thanks,
    Gabe

Yes they will sell you those and even let you upgrade (keeping the original warranty) if they do the trick themselves. At least that what I got from their tech department last time I checked.
Keep in mind the price will be high.
A single 4870 with the HS and the CF cable will be well over 500$ and a CPU will be even higher (dunno why they boost their CPU prices that much.. )

I'd suggest you to buy both second hand and install them yourself, it's fairly easy and the forum is full of video guides.
This way if you don't tell Dell anything and keep your old cpu, the warranty is intact ;)

That's what I plan on doing, but is there any site that sells intel mobile cpu's with atleast a 1 year warranty?

Aikimox is correct in that the warranty will stay in tact if Dell performs the upgrade. If you perform the upgrade yourself, Dell may choose to not honor the warranty.

    Thanks,
    Gabe

Not sure, and usually not needed. There's a very slim chance of getting a faulty chip (even the extreme edition bought second hand will most likely be fine after some OC'ing).
You can even buy through this forum.
