So it's time to uppgrade my new M17, 2 GB Memory will be 4GB and my 160gb harddrive is going to get company.
The problem is that i dont know much about hardware thats why i need your help.

First the memory, i want to keep ddr3 but there seems to be alot of different speeds or what it is, 1066 Mhz, 1800 Mhz, 1600 Mhz etc. Is there any major differenses and will all fit in my M17? What about brands, any special you should look out for?

Then the harddrive. I know as much as its 2,5" that i need but whats the differens between IDE and SATA and wich should i use?

I'm thankful for all anwsers :)

I just put a SSD in my M17 and it's much much quicker than the raid 1 set up i was using.

Memory: Generally popular brands are Crucial or OCZ for DDR3 so-dimms. Make sure you get "204-pin sodimm DDR3 PC8500/1066MHz" (or faster) memory (also you can only have 2 memory sticks, so you need 2x2GB for 4GB in the laptop.

Harddrive: You need 2.5inch, SATA, brand wise, the main brands are much the same (Seagate, Western Digital, Samsung, Hitachi, etc...), or there are SSDs, which as the post above says, are much faster, but also more expensive.

Alternatively, try searching this forum, it is full of examples / suggestions for both HDD and RAM...

That's great MR.Moo thanks alot, i will look into these memory sticks.
And about harddrive i was thinking 320gb or more and 7200rpm but i'm not shure it's worth it over 5400 rpm. My budget is about 200$

The sad thing is that i live in sweden but i'l take all suggestions you have and check if i can get them here.
