    Is this true? I can get 2Gb sticks for $29C myself instead, of paying $189, for 2GB.

    you will not void the warranty. the two things you can upgrade yourself are the hard drive and ram.

    IF i got a external hard drive like this broke the case off, and get the hard drive out can I install it on my notebook? Or are these desktop hard drives?

    it depends on the drive. some of them have laptop hard drives in them and some dont. its easier to just buy a hard drive.
