Hey guys, i have an alienware m15x laptop and a dell xps 1530 laptop. I am going to change the thermal paste on both; when i strap on my grounding bracelet, where do i attach the little gator clip too in order to get rid of static? Do i attach it to a peice of my laptop, or do i need to have like a metal folding chair or something next to me?

buy a ESD mat from best buy or an electronics store. Put the laptop on the ESD mat. Plug the ESD mat in to the wall. Put the strap on your wrist and the clip on the mat.

My electronics store is closed, and I sort of spent all my money on the cleaning agents and paste... is there any way around this?

Not really...static will destroy the parts inside the laptop. The mat is only around $20.

ESD is electrostatic discharge. The strap and mat prevent ESD. The grounding strap and ESD mat are sold at radio shacks, best buys, and other electronic stores.
