The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.
This would be an awesome added-value feature. This thread has been viewed 96 times (as of this moment) and only 4 viewers have bothered to click the link and promote the idea at IdeaStorm.
That's kind of sad... C'mon team, if you would value this feature, please promote the idea so that Dell/Alienware knows it would be valued. ~Thanks~
Supported + joined up just for that. That's a really good idea mate. Sorta sick of having to load HWINFO each time i boot my laptop, would fix that horrible battery issue too.
500 views (as of now) and only 12 people that take a few minutes to vote on something this important??? C'mon people... don't be so lame. Register at IdeaStorm and click the "Promote" button. Unless, of course, you don't want something better. For the 12 that did, good job guys.
Sometimes it is difficult to gauge whether the inaction is largely due to complacency (which affects many areas of life, unfortunately... professional, social, political, religious, etc.) or a simple lack of knowledge. Some may not understand what we are talking about or why it matters.
Agreed, I'm still waiting for my registration confirmation email. It's taken too long and I've tried to 2 different email accounts. Does anyone know if you have to be in the US? If so ill fire up the VPN
I'm in the UK, but I've held my account/registration for some time already......don't think you particularly need to be in the US (or you shouldn't need to anyway).
Yeah, such a poor showing is very disappointing. We have 13 votes out of 659 views thus far. So, that means only 2% care. The other 98% do not care, are too ignorant to understand the purpose, or too self-absorbed to be bothered with the few minutes of sacrifice that would be involved with their participation. This is a really great small scale example of how/why the wrong people get elected, wrong laws and statutes get enacted, etc. It's not only disappointing, but also extremely pathetic. I would have expected a better than 2% participation rate from NBR members.
The number of posts (many redundant posts by a small number of people) whining and moaning nonsense about Dell/Alienware "not listening" to customers about what they want (display panels are a great example) is ridiculous. There have been many things on IdeaStorm like this that get ignored. "
Let somebody else do it, but I'll be back to complain later if nothing happens." Go figure.
Yeah - c'mon guys, step up to the plate and cast your votes for this great idea. If you don't have an Ideastorm/Dell username, create one - it takes only a blink of an eye and you're done. We really need ideas like this to be pushed through and enacted upon. It's not rocket science, the more voices speak up, the more we get listened to.
No, I don't think so. They have already acknowledged the idea. It only makes sense that the more people that promote the idea and comment about it at IdeaStorm the more incentive they would have to do something they know that their customers will value and appreciate.
It's simple, the more people vote = higher demand in eyes of alienware decisions markers.
Right now with the amount of votes, it looks liked it's of no importance and hence in eyes of decision makers, no need to do something about it. Really sad example
This is what we needed from day one, but no one wants to push to get it done
Well, it may not be true that they will interpret this as being of no importance. It might depend on how many promotions they customarily receive before they begin to seriously consider implementation. Surely, the lame response example we are seeing here is something Dell sees at IdeaStorm on a fairly frequent basis. Let's face it, the average Joe is a complacent loser that lacks the drive and initiative to act even when it is something they care about. It's an unfortunate reality in today's society that affects too many areas in life. That is one reason why polls are so deceiving and not scientific.
But, I totally agree in concept. Yes... the more the better. It's more difficult to argue with large numbers.
lol so true brother fox, I went through the same thing when posting an ideastorm thread in the M11x section a while back. Anyway, I voted for it; it'd be great to see this added to future systems.
I think it would also be cool if Alienware had their own GPU monitoring widget. Maybe it can have an Alienware head that slowly changes colors: red for hot, blue for cool. The overall experience of owning an Alienware system could be even more unique than it is now, and creative ideas for new software or programs will allow them to do this.
Don't stop at this idea, that's all I'm saying. We should all share our thoughts and ideas.
Edit: One thing is for sure: we need more support! Sign up and promote this idea.
Bumping for more votes... let's keep it going. Click the link, register at Dell IdeaStorm if you haven't already, then click the "Promote Link" and add a comment.
That would be really nice. I can't imagine them giving that to us, or improving upon the excellent GPU overclocking features we have available to us with EVGA Precision and MSI Afterburner. I believe what they are permitted to do as an OEM as far as the GPUs are concerned may be pretty tightly controlled by NVIDIA.
Agreed. Something like this would be phenomenal. Although, they would have to offer some sort of special warranty to protect us from damaging our GPU, and that can become quite costly for them if they have to continuously replace GPU's. And the program itself would probably be very limited and only allow a certain amount of overclock-ability as opposed to a program like MSI Afterburner.
Would be nice, though - not having to download extra crap to overclock & monitor.
Johnksss came up with a very similar idea for an "OC package" if you like, which would have allowed users to specify an overclockers setup. We would have happily paid a premium for this, to cover potential warranty issues. That was what he proposed anyhow, dunno how much attention Dell gave it.
