I ordered a m15x laptop 2 weeks ago so I called today to see if anything changed on the status of my order and they told me i was still held up in verification so i called dell financial services verification department and they tell me i need further verification so i give them all the right information on the phone and they tell me i still do not verify and will be getting a letter mailed to me with further instructions and something about identity theft.

Has anyone ever gotten this letter?

its normal but not sure about the letter.it is to protect you and them from fraud. why cant they just tell you what they need over the phone.
maybe it could be you dont have a good enough credit rating so theve turned you down but wont tell you over the phone.
mine was held up for a week and i was paying cash using debit card. at the time i could of bought 10 computers and still had change in my account but they still refused mine with the same excuse as fraud prevention. all i had to do was phone my bank and it was cleared within 5 minutes but im not sure what they will ask for in the letter as you are ordering through credit. could be blood group and dna sample just to protect them from fraud.

Yeah, I've gotten that before. I live in Canada so they asked for a scan/fax of my SIN card, citizenship and a major bill.

It's smooth after that point though.

EDIT: Be advised that I did cancel my order and went for an Alienware. So I'm not sure about how the actual mailing bit goes though. However, I am pretty sure that you've been approved.

Like I said, I cancelled and went for an AW, so I never really reached the mailing phase. However, to your initial question, I do believe it is normal and you should have been approved.

    Where do you live btw?

You didn't apply for the financing then, or did you use your mothers cc as a reference for credit check?

Better tell her then that her credit rating took a hit because Dell Finance (aka CIT not Citibank) when they ask around the credit gods, it triggers a dip in her score.

    Update:

So for some reason i get a call today from aleinware telling me that my order was canceled today and that i need to reorder my laptop for reasons i have no idea. So i call aleinware back and they tell me i was held up because of verification but on friday i called DFS and they verified me with the letter they sent me in the mail so there should be no problem. She then asks me for my ssn so she can check the credit on the titanium account. She pus me on hold comes back and tell me the problem was that i did not get approved for the credit even tho it told me i did and i got the card in the mail. So i tell her that and she explains to me that every body is pre approved but then goes threw another approval process after the order is placed ? So i get off the phone with aleinware and call DFS to check my account information she tells me that the credit from my canceled order is refreshed and everything is there and i can order no problem. So i went ahead and reordered the laptop yay lets see how this order goes

Another note if the titanium account is with CIT Bank why when i call them they cant find my account in there system i know for sure i am giving them the right number

That's lame. Sounds like you're getting throwned around.

As long as you get your lappy, all that matters.

That's what happened to me on my initial order. Somehow it got "cancelled" along the way, with neither Alienware nor DFS wanting to take responsibility - they each blamed the other. Hehe.

Here's hoping that it goes well for you from now on.

You better do a credit score check on yourself ASAP. If they denied you once and then did the process again and reinstated you make sure your SCORE did not get hit twice in less than 2 weeks.

Don't expect that CIT has your info right away. You have to remember Dell Financial does the paper work then SELLS it to CIT. CIT will have it soon enough.

Yeah but it started all over again with the reorder. it takes about a month (thats how long it was for me) before CIT sends you the first bill for payment. Thats when they have you. Its dressed up as Dell Financial letterhead so keep an eye open.

Be extremely mindful. Alienware will convert your entire bill to U.S. funds (including your taxes) forcing you to fight tooth and nail for them to correct it. Reiterate to them repeateadly that you expect this will not happen. They will use all manner of smoke and mirrors right up to the point your machine ships to convince you you're paying in Canadian funds -- until your (credit card) statement shows otherwise.

    Record your calls.

I would not give much credit to the ole Phase Time Machine, At least they are not built by little Amish men, it would take forever to be built. Though it may be built better ;) .

No, just saying that they seem to jump around a bit, if you are showing Phase 6 it could go to shipped in a matter of hours or days. :)

Yeah, the phase page is extremely buggy right now because it keeps switching me from phase 8 (where I am supposed to be) to phase 1 and then sometimes it is saying that my order information is unavailable at the moment. I wouldn't worry about it too much though. Just keep one eye outside your window for the delivery truck at all times :D
