These are the drivers I have used:
    180.74
    180.48
    179.14
    177.98
    176.37

All of them are freezing up on me, I am running vista business 64, Some of these drivers let me run 3d06, and maybe even last a few hours before freezing up. Some just freeze up right away. Once they do freeze up, I can't even boot back into windows, it freezes at log in screen, than I have to reboot in safemode and delete the drivers.

In between each install I run driver cleaner. I am wondering if perhaps it is another problem, all these drivers can't be bad.

    Specs:
    Alienware m15x
    2.6ghz
    4 gigs kingstone hyperx
    Nvidia 9800m GT

If someone knows a driver that works with my card, that would help, until than i'll keep searching. and yes I am using the modded INF files.

are you DLing the optimized ones for a laptop from laptopvideo?
are they 32 or 64 bit compliant?
are you sure your not getting mixed in there somewhere since you appear to have two 64 bits OS's and one 32?

Eh, I wouldn't blame it on AW just yet. They don't currently support Vista 64 (nor do they offer it) for the m15x though it'd be really nice if they did.

Yeah, that's why I said it'd be really nice if they did.

In any case, I'll be looking into your problem for the next several days and will see if I can come up with any workaround for your problem. I won't promise you I'll find results, but I will promise you that I will dedicate some time looking into it. Thanksgiving break is coming up very soon so I'll have plenty of time to look into it for you. =)

Eh, I actually haven't played L2 for 3 weeks. I've lost most of my interest in it. I still have it paid for, but I'm not too sure if I want to pay for it next month or the month thereafter.

Ah. I still have yet to finish COD5, so I may be playing that for a few hours during Thanksgiving break. Otherwise, I'll be sticking around on the forums like I usually do. 8)

Hey thanks for the help, but I've got to wonder if it is the video driver. I just tried 2 more, and every driver I try has the same problem.

I also updated my chipset, what else could it be if it is not the graphics driver?

The last twho drivers I tried are 180.43 and 178.24.

Don't know if you want to try this, but ... I have 176.23 loaded on my ASUS 15.4" with Vista 64 and am having no issues. Card is similar - 9800M GS.

I should mention that 176.23 is what came with the unit. I have no idea if Asus modded the inf.

There are lots of people who have got 64 bit working very well, I am bound to think it has got to be me. perhaps the order in which I installed everything is causing me grief, I just cant see how all those drivers are causing the same conflict.

I installed 178.26, and soo far it crashed twice, but than has been performing well, only giving me 9600 3d06 scores, but allowing me to play, FPS in cod4 is around the 60-70s. on high settings.

I'll keep you guys updated on how it goes, and thanks to ALL who have helped.

Going to give it a try next week. Can always go back to 32 bit if all fails. May need help from the experts on this forum.

So far I have tried 8 different drivers, all giving me the same problem, so I decided to start over from the beginning, following every step precise and after 5 hours, a new install, I am still getting crashes. I am going back to 32 bit.

I really wish I had a Vista-64 disk on me so I could see if I could replicate the problem.

How are your partitions set up at the moment?

It is already said and done, all Ive got left to install now is the command center, and i'll be a 32bit user again.

Thanks to all who tried to help.

Hmm, I'm really curious now. I'll get Vista x64 myself to see if I can replicate the problem. Since it seems like more people are switching over to Vista x64, I think it'll be a worthwhile experience to see how it reacts to the m15x.

I ran out and got a copy of Vista x64-- and I have to say the installation was seamless. Managed to get everything set up properly in about 3 hours. I'll test out 3DMark06 in a bit.

How were your partitions set up anyway?

I had my 320 cut in half giving half to vista64 and half to xp64.

    both were primary drives.

hey guys, so if we're buying an m15x we shouldn't get 4 gigs cuz they won't all be used on vista? without upgrading to 64 bit of course....

Well, you can if you want. It'll only utilize 3GB, but you'll still be able to run in a dual-channel configuration. If you put in (1) 1GB stick and (1) 2GB stick, you'll only be running in a single-channel configuration.
