Making this thread in case some other people have this problem at some point and they are wondering why.
VitaKey's password bank management feature (the one you basically use your fingerprints to login to pages instead of typing user/pass), conflicts with Firefox BUT not with IE.
Most common problem i had was with my router. When i tried to log on to my router the user/pass box pops up but when you type one letter or click on it the frame just becomes invisible and you cant log in. Had the same problem in some other pages but the router one was the one i had to put up every day.
There are 3 "solutions" for this.
1. Use an addon so that firefox can load the page using IE's engine.
2. Disable Password bank feature from Vitakey.
3. Use IE for those logins.

Hows it work with opera ....? and does it work with most stuff in firefox?
-
Seems that feature only works for IE, not sure about opera since i dont have it installed.
Tested a few "random" sites just not. IE gets me a message if i want to save the info in Vitakey, Firefox just logs in without any message.
So i guess this feature was mainly designed for IE. -
yea this sucks ... ok whos gonna mod it for us....maybe vita key has a plugin on there site..
-
Nah just checked, nothing there
-
same here lol how bout diff finger print reader software... there freeware everything...hummm
-
Different software i guess its like saying use nvidia drivers for ati
Although i might be wrongNot sure if software and hardware are from the same company

whats this?
i cant find any programs i wonder if we knew what the model finger print scanner was then we could use say a lenvo FP scanner? or some one elses -
As for the fingerprint software its for DigitalPersona Password Manager

Not sure if this is something different or if it can even work with other browsers
BUT

nice i know it was keyboard and mouse but it said finger print software so i had to link it really sucks on this one.. btw what kinda router u got i hope it works with wrt54g cuz i keep my school internet up and i black stuff and run the system as far as repairs upgrades and networking.
its fun because i can do anything i want , we use ip filter and stuff (easy to get around but every one else is not to bright) so i set mine to static outside my determined ip range -
Its a linksys i got for free
-
Have you found if anything works?
Initially, I didn't want to waste my time with fingerprint readers, but now I love giving log-ins the finger. It is one of the unexpected things I love about the m17.
I want to start using Firefox now, but I don't want to give up using the finger print reader. -
Doesnt seem to be a way around it since Firefox prioritise itself over what Vitakey wants, so it just ignores it
Theres a "decent" way to "fix" it. Use the Firefox addon that allows you to use IE's engine in some pages (the ones you want). That way those pages will be able to work properly with Vitakey and still use firefox. -
props for getting it free, ihate pass words so imma try to find some thing mine is saposed to be shipped at the end of the week, but i dont get it till jan 22 (b-day) imma try to find something , i may download all the major company finger print software and try to use the drivers on AW(if they have them) and mod it , see if any of the others(hp lenvo dell etc) support 3 party browswers
-
yea but id rather surf with opera lol but with that engine is the same malicious code still excutable through firefox...i dun like drive by"s?
-
Sounds like a good idea if not all of them use the same software.
Well its still firefox so same security rules apply to those pages. -
Hm, messing around in the internet, think might actually be a way to fix this.
Our fingerprint is made by AuthenTec, there are a lot of software out there that can work with that. Only issue is, how many support other browsers -
yea no kiddin i just re read the link i posted and dang i really shoulda read that better lol srry bout that .... sounds good i'll start lookin since im not getting it for like 3 weeks
maybe i can be a good enough kid and get it for collage... i start jan 12
(dual enroll in HS and collage for scolarship)
-
Hm, HP uses the same hardware i think
and their laptops come with http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-49006-1&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3185028&os=2093&lang=en which so far they said that it worked with firefox. But it seems like a heavy program. Not sure if it will work on the M17 though, although it should if its the same device. -
tell you what i did, disabled vitakey that did the trick
-
Nah i like using it to log into windows
And protect files
-
I've download this ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp35501-36000/sp35640.exe
from HP website and it works, I still don't had time to test it properly. it's called verysoft access manager and it also allows to login in windows (at least in xp) and it can store passwords from programs or in firefox. it works very well. Though the fingerprint sensor is not very good... but nice program. -
Wait a minute, vitakey is supposed to work for websites too? The only time mine has ever popped up is to use Yahoo Messenger and Itunes.
-
Yeap, works on IE.
-
Oh. Did anyone have been using the Gooogle translate too ?
VitaKey will crash. if you try to translate Japanese to Chinese.
or sometime Japanese to Engish as well :O -
-
I just checked my system settings tab in Vitakey, and the ability to use vitakey to login to websites that are registered with Vitakey functiionality is greyed out. I can't even check the box to turn it on. Anyone know why this is??
-
This option ?

Yep, on my computer the very bottom option is greyed out, and I can't select it. I have the Enable Password Bank, but not the very bottom one. Did they "hotfix" it to disable it for some reason?
-
Just make sure you got the updated version from AW site. Theres a hotfix (you can find it in myhive) for it, not sure if that will solve your problem though.
-
Ahh ok when you uncheck "Enable Password" it ungreys, but you can't check both blocks, its either one or the other.
