like zippers as i pulled it out of my bad @ a angle
-
Got complete care?
-
Wait... it comes off or did you mean it just got scratched?
-
technically anodizing comes off after repeated heating and cooling
but im saying its not hard to scratch off -

It's a black anodized "plating" over silver aluminum. Scratch the black and the silver shows through.
Great for laser etching bad for nicks. -
Nailed it ..... i guess the day it gets bad enough ill strip it off and get it etched -

I figured it must be similar to a Mag-Lite. no?
-
Use the protective cloth it comes with.
-
well right now its the corner that is all scratched up so its ok

Ya this was the one reason I would have considered the silver model, it isn't anodized right? Just brushed aluminum?
And if anyone gets these laser etched I want to see pictures! (although same effect can be had with a dremmel patience and VERY steady hands) -
no anodized

Just wanted to check, as anodized just means electroplating as phinagle pointed out. So anodized aluminum means you have an aluminum base with something else plated on it in a VERY thing layer (talking a few atoms thick here).
I would like to see powder coat then baked in over the way they do car paint. That would be awesome on a laptop haha -
Thanks for the heads up moo. Will be more careful around zippers. ty moo.

-
lol Phin is right ....

I suppose....I just don't want a fingerprint magnet....in the process of matte'ing my whitebook now because of that haha
Anyone know where I can get a palmrest/fingerprint reader/touchpad from the m17 to put on my whitebook? (want the matte finish) -
you could do it yourself
-

What would be the best way to do that? I want something permanent, not a sticker
-
yea get paint and paint it ...
sand prime paint -
well this thread just cost me 314.00 I upgraded to complete care for 2 yrs, but I feel more protected now
-
good to hear because CC i great !
-
Was that from a one year basic warranty?
-
yes, was like 294.00 plus tax.
-
Alright that's not bad then. You only paid about $50 extra upgrading after purchase.
-
ye but I used an employee discount of 17% when I purchased the system so I could have saved more, but live and learn.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
why wouldn't the same discount apply to upgrade purchases?
-
said they could not use my employee coupon for warranty upgrade? so I was like whatever just give me it lol.
-
I upgraded on chat, I think I will call and speak to someone and see if maybe they can use my code or give a better deal? If not it is still worth the price imo.
-
well only worth the price i you throw it down the stairs

Or step on it. My first notebook was stepped on....used it with broken screen for a year thought until the blob that was bleeding through crack took over whole middle area of screen
-
That sucks Moo.. I will be extra careful of mine.. I was worried about that and you confirmed it.. I'll keep a sharpie in my bag for emergency touch ups lol...
-
Hey Moo,
Which bag are you using that scratched the case? -
Megacharge Custom User Title
I don't understand why you wouldn't keep the sleeve on it while it's in your backpack lol. that sleeve will always be on my M17x when it's being transported, that's what it is there for, Dell gives it to us for a reason.
-
i was in the hospital and i needed to move quick
-
Hey Moo,
You have the Orion backpack right can you post some pics so we can see how the M17X fits... -
I just put mine in the bag it came with and put it in my alienware bag.
-
WILD IDEA...
I am known to polish/plated random stuff (say a 3" nut chrome plated, polished busted piston from my race car
, polished from wheels to valve covers to intercooler endtanks.
So if it is aluminum, why not get rid of anodized crap and polish to the mirror finish?
I can care less about finger prints; I can wipe the surface off...
Hmm anyone along with me on this one?
ilber<- yeah a nut case in disguises -
Good aluminium laptop... It's an amazing machine the M17x. That together with the dual lamp LCD puts it on the top, as the best laptop ever known to man.
-
Hope mine dosn't do that...
I'd hate to see silver coming through the silver.... -
I always put it into the cloth bag/cover it came with and then into the backpack to protect it. I figured there must be a reason why such a cloth bag/cover has been included.
-
-
-
they will be from my phone since im once again sitting in a store for 1 hour uploading video's for people -
-
That's why I am always putting mine in the nice bag it comes with. It's annoying though to do it every time...
-
Hi Moo,
I'm sorry to hear that your new laptop is already scratched. Unfortantely, none of the Dell warranties cover costmetic damage (or any damage that doesn't prevent the normal operation of the computer). If it gets bad enough, you can always buy the panel kit and switch it out.
Thanks,
Gabe
