    hi guys,

new to the discussion area and must admit its great reading and lots of info.

I have a problem with WEI rating where it gives a score of 4.7 for my CPU core i7-740qm.the test conducted on normal mode not stealth...check twice just in case and i still got the score of 4.7.

any help would be greatly appreciated from all the sifu here.

    thanks in advance

I would think it would be higher than that. I get 7.4 for mine, and it shold not be that much faster than a stock 740.

Type msconfig in run & click on boot then advanced option's check number of processors should be 4 for you.Try that.

Well, it should be 8 and not four because in that menue it considerrs each thread as a processor, but that box next to number of processors should remain unchecked. Then the system will run all cores and threads. I've tried otherwise and had poor results. Could be just me, but I would leave it unchecked. Run CPU-Z to see if you have 4 cores/8 threads reported. Should look like this

EDIT: Forgot to mention, Your "Bus Speed" will be 133MHz, I'm in the middle of a benchmarking session so I have it slightly overclocked. And your mulipliers should jump to 22. The 720M i'm benching jumps to 21, so the 740M should hit 22.

I have read somewhere that you should only put in the number of physical cores & leave out the HT cores.

On my i5 msconfig is set to 4 cores by default , so an i7 must be 8

If left uncheck it uses all cores/threads that if finds. If you have the option of 8, and choose 4, then it will only run 2 cores/4 threads. Took me a while to figure this out when I first got in the core-i game a few months back.

Have you checked the bios to see if turbo boost is enabled?

Hey there froggy, the fix for your problem is indicated in the bios. You must enable speedstep. I had the same problem as you, i would get about 5.8 WEI in CPU. Then i enabled speedstep and when i ran WEI again, i got 7.5 CPU.

Also be sure your on high performance as your power plan.

Let me know if this fixes your problem. :D

    Hi theres chiefs.

I have the same CPU as you and I score a 7.1 for the CPU in the WEI.
So that should be a reference point for yah. ;) :D

    Good Luck.

    Cheers. :)

Yea, I was in the middle of a benchmarking session. You can tell by the Bus speed. The default bus speed is 133MHz. Still benching the i7 Q720M. About to wrap it up and stick an i5 540M in the system :D

WEI can't be ok .. I have a crappy cpu, the Core 2 Quad Q9000 @2.26 GHz and my score is 7.1, the same as your totally superior i7 740QM cpu

eeheheh yeh the WEI is an odd creature ey lol. I too have the Q9000 in my R1 and it scores a 7.2 in the WEI lol. In fact my scores in my R1 are a little better than my R2 overall. lol ;) :D Oh well no biggy though.

The 740QM isn't all that powerful lol. It has quite a low stock clockrate of 1.73Ghz. Its main power is quad core and can run up to 8 threads. + the HT turbo boost. Clock to clock though it is quite low. Not sure how WEI bench runs it though. Turbo or not.

    Cheers. :)

I believe, but i am not really sure, that the WEI just test the ALU, the ALU is the united in processor wich add, substract, two registers, it also operates with logic: and , or, etc... less than, grather than , etc... so I guess WEI just evaluate the speed in operation with registers of the CPU.
