I've been thinking about what I want for my next Alienware laptop... and given that we're not likely to see vast improvements in video graphics cards in spring 2013 like Maxwell or the like lets please focus on WQHD screen displays instead. Something to compete with Apple's MacBook Retina. Don't botch it with full HD 1920 crap. We need to scale text so make it like Samsung's prototype 16x9 ratio
2560x1440. I would be super happy if its ltps or izgo oled as well but I'd settle for WQHD IPS. Just don't give us the orange or yellow burn in problems of the LG IPS screens. Use Samsung IPS. If samsung won't sell Dell OLED laptop screens for WQHD see if Sharp will. Make it happen. Sick of these mac boys punking us on retina.

Don't botch the resolution scaling options by choosing the wrong IPS default resolution please; here is why

The major fault with this logic is that a screen of that resolution with current graphics cards could run most games at around 20-28fps on ultra, there would also be very little visual improvement over a standard FHD panel. I personally believe resolution is not a killer for screens, colour quality is, which is why I would like the old high quality screens back on the m17x. If we don't see a massive improvement in graphics technology then these sorts of screens on a gaming notebook simply aren't feasible.

Me too... I would prefer to see 60 to 100+ FPS at 1080p in-game versus less than 60 FPS at 2560x1440 or some other ultra high resolution. Other than not needing to use the scroll bar as much with applications like Excel, I really have no use for a display resolution that high. I would much prefer they focus on color quality. In all honesty, I am completely satisfied with the display quality on the M18x. Even if presented with options for a better display, I would choose to spend all of my money on more meaningful components like a faster CPU, more powerful GPU(s), larger and faster SSD and better memory.

The screens would improve drastically if they would just apply an anti glare coating to them or got rid of the dang plastic covering.

I'm happy with 1080p as a resolution as well, but I would pay quite a bit more for a display with 100% RGB.

Coming over to an Alienware after owning a iMac 27, I must say I do miss the iMac's display, its god damn beautiful, and if there is a weak spot in the m18x, it would be its display (and that's nit picking). The irony of it all, my Mac could seldom play a modern game at its native 2560x1440 res and keep a decent frame rate. So it's kind of like owning a Ferrari with a rev limiter.
Should the m18 improve in the colors and contrasts department ? Sure, I would like that, but to be honest, 2560x1440 res would be totally wasted on a 18' display. Maybe they could make it an option but id still prefer to go out an buy the external monitor of my dreams. -
I WANT a better screen in general.. 1080p or 4k but yea a better screen in general..

I use mine for non-gaming purposes a lot more than for gaming, so I would welcome a high resolution screens. 13" laptops are getting 2560x screens and 17" is still on 1080p. Come on!

You might not be a happy gamer because your FPS will be low and demanding games will not be very smooth with such a high resolution. Those low-powered 13" devices with high resolution displays are not gaming machines (unless you count solitaire, tetris, angry birds, etc., LOL) so the performance hit might not be apparent using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, web surfing and checking email.

I never really got why all the review sites keep saying the 13" rMBP would be great for video/photo editing, when those two things are both heavily GPU dependant. The lack of dedicated GPU and the high res screen would make the device terrible for editing of any kind. Pretty good for 'looking' at pictures and video on though.

bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
lets get the 100% RGB screen to come back before we start talking about better resolutions.
WQHD Please on next revisions for Alienware.
