So I just extended mine for another year for $169 instead of $229. Is it good enough? I just wanna get some opinions.

I think $170 is a small price to pay for another 12 months of peace of mind. If you love your laptop, it's a great thing to not have to worry about it.
My R1 only came with the standard 1 year warranty so when I was about 8 months into it, I bought a 4 year extended plan for $488. It seems high, but to protect it for that long is pretty good I think. Plus my real hope would be that in two or three years it just breaks good and they replace it with a newer model -
It's always good to purchase an extension on the warranty for Alienware systems. A system of such value will cost you a ton to repair yourself, especially if you find some lackey high school drop out technician to handle it. Hell, he may end up stealing some parts and replacing them with crap. You're better off relying on certified technicians at Dell to handle your precious system. There can be side effects to sending it in for repairs, but you're much better off in the long run. Just a tip for your next purchase, you will save a bunch on the warranty if you purchase it up front rather than extending it in the future.
Enjoy the system. If you need anything else, let us know. -
I think you did pretty good ESPECIALLY if that price is for accidental damage. I ordered an M18xr2 a few weeks back and forgot to get accidental damage. I got the 3 year warranty, but have no idea why I forgot to tell the Dell rep to add it. I called them back THE SAME DAY I accepted delivery of my laptop to add it. I would have been $110 extra when I ordered it, so no big deal for them to add it or so I thought. They wanted $400+ to change it to accidental! I went through several departments and the cheapest I could get them to go is $288. So I set up a return for the laptop that I had for 3 days. I bet they lost more money than it would have cost them to upgrade my laptop's warranty. Yet they wonder why they are losing money. So, I reordered my laptop with the correct warranty and got a new one.

The warranty is standard not accidental, anyways thanks all for the input! Funny thing was I called and got quoted $200 for 2 years + $50 once I told him I would take it he either hanged up or call got disconnected. Called about 4 reps and they said that deal is impossible, and they couldn't replicate it. I kept telling them but they think I was lying. So this was the best I could do.

If you do want to repair a AW (or Dell) I recommend doing it yourself with parts from eBay or Dell (if you have to). Their techs are absolutely unqualified and I'd much rather do it myself.

It's always good to have a long warranty to cover your PC of any HW failure, they might come with time and you would want to be protected if they come.

I normally am not a big warranty guy, but when you spend this much on a laptop, it's a good piece of mind.
-
Are you able to purchase a warranty outright, if your original one expired?

who is the right person to talk to about extending a warranty that has lapsed? I have tried online and the difference between that and calling is almost triple...

Yes, the cost is sometimes astronomical to extend the warranty, especially going with the standard pricing online. It is always much less expensive to go with a 2 or 3 year warranty extension when buying a new system. (It costs a whole lot more even on a new system after the order is shipped.) One of the reps here might be able to help. Send Luis or Pablo a PM and see how the price compares to doing it online.
