Usually, the manufacturer will send you an email asking if you would like to extend it. Usually towards the end. Also, you can call.

    From AW Sales support:

"2- You can upgrade the warranty while it is still active. Once the warranty has expired it will not be possible to extend or upgrade it. "

"Regarding your inquiry, by installing a third party memory or hard drive, your warranty will not be affected. However, in case the system fails after you install these components, it will not be covered by your Alienware warranty and we will not provide service for that component or specific issue.

In case you install a third party processor or power supply on your system, your warranty will be voided.

Be advised that after you receive the system, you may purchase upgrade components from Alienware at discounted prices. "

On a related note, I contacted Alienware's CS staff about Accidental damage coverage warranties, and they said they offered none thru AW :( As a result, I ended up placing an order for a Dell XPS M1730 (with 3yrs accidental dmg plan) instead of the m15x I'd been eyeing for weeks.

Is it possible to insure AW laptops thru other parties to cover possible costs? If so, which insurance parties would you recommend?
