OK, so seeing the R3 is lower specced than our R2's, I wonder what they will do when they have to do a warranty replacement when the R2's are out of production. They have to give us xfire or sli if we have it now, but I have a hard time seeing them upgrading us to M18x. I'm sure the bean counters took warranty for existing machines into consideration.

Mod, please move under M17X or Warranty if appropriate.

Good question. I guess it would depend who you spoke to and how pushy you were. It takes quite a lot to get a replacement system. Despite the r2 looking very different to the r3 I imagine that they would replace it with the newer model even without dual graphics, it won't matter to them. The warranty should only replace on unintentional persistent hardware failure anyway. Unless you sabotage your system which is illegal most people won't get near a replacement.

You must of had a warranty replacement issue. I have never had that issue, they did 3 replacement parts and then the laptop as the warranty dictates. They must replace laptop with like hardware, sli/xfire for sli/xfire. There are still plenty of system failures without needing to sabotage, lol. Read this looong thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...placement-systems-warranty-repair-issues.html .

I've never had any issues but I've never had anything wrong. Their policy is to change the laptop after 3, yeh this is true but you should really quote that to them because I know people that have had 4 or 5 replacement components but no new laptop. Every case and team member is different but you have to be pushy when dealing with corporations especially with warranty which in most sectors is a rip off. With laptops it is worthwhile though. If you don't ask you probably wont get. And if you are absolutely sure you know the answer to the question you asked why did you feel the need to ask? The r2 is still a top dog so at the moment and they will sell it for a while still so if yours broke it would be replaced by another r2. I still think that they'd want to replace it with an r3 if there were non availble however that is just my opinion
besides If you get a different laptop from the r2 it will be different hardware anyway but seeing as the value is greater they could justify it imo.

And I am talking worst case scenario total meltdown...
-
They still have the old parts. That have plenty of refurbished laptops that they will give you. You won't get a new one.
-
Thats not true either. I have gotten 3 new replacements myself. They may switch to a refurb unit, if they have one same specs or better.
-
In extreme cases it can happen, but given the plethora of R-2's I wouldn't count on it any time soon...
-
We'll know when someone is in this position. No need to speculate as it serves no purpose.
Warranty replacements M17x R2 - R3? M18x?
