Hi, I bought a used M17X R3 from ebay. I wouldn't normally buy a used laptop as I'm too anal about used electronics but the deal was too good to pass up. Anyway, I got the service tag and still have a lot of warranty left, but my question is do I need to worry about getting the warrany transferred or anything or does AW/Dell just go off the service tag?

    Any help would be appreciated...thanks.

Yes, you need to go to to this site: Ownership-Tag Transfer | Dell

You will need to have the previous owner's information in order to transfer it into your name.

For security purposes we always verify your account and it'll be better if it is under your name.

I updated the tread title to reflect that the process is not model-specific.

Quick one, is warranty 100% transferable internationally for Alienware laptops?
I have in mind buying used AW laptop from UK with 1-2 months warranty left on it, then transferring ownership to new owner in Ireland, and possibility buying extended warranty... Would be good if someone could clarify this for me. Thanks!

That is a good question. I have no idea. I think there might be issue since the warranty is going from one country to another and the warranty laws/rules differ from country to country. Maybe one of the Alienware reps can chime in here?

I can answer that with: it is possible!

Dell's warranty is valid worldwide provided they offer service for the specific system in the country it is located and the contract is transferred if the owner spends more than six months in the said country or lives there.

You can extend a system's warranty up to five years from the date it was manufactured.

After looking at the Ownership|Transfer website, it had a stipulation in the small print: Service contract types that are non-transferable.

This states that some contracts can't be transfered outside the country where the machine was purchased. So if you purchase a notebook in Britain, you may not be able to transfer the warranty to Ireland. I would check with Alienware UK to see if there are any restrictions for transfering warranties between the two countries.
