Hypothetically, if i bought a m17x off a seller on ebay, with a non working illuminated keyboard. with warranty left, i cannot use the warranty to get the keyboard fixed because i was not the original owner?
I know it has been hammered a bunch of times with the warranty ttransfer issue, just making sure.
-
Correct, Alienware CS have been here and verified it also.
-
Ok well now that that is covered, how do you turn on your illuminated keyboard? i dont have it, the seller says it went off suddenly, what keyboard buttons will reactivate it? is it like..FN +f10?
-
Has an Alienware rep ever stated why the company doesn't allow warranty transfers? It's seems like an absurd policy.
-
Hopefully that will change now that they are integrated more closely with Dell.
-
Yes Clauss, it's fn=f10.
Is your alien head lit up on the lid? -
its not mine, but its the alienhead and touchpad that are apparently illuminated, i am trying to fix it via email and telling him what to do. any other ideas besides f10?
-
Sorry I just saw "17" in your post. Not sure about the 17X.
-
yeah its a m17x, would the fix be totally different..? if any fix available
-
could be just a loose connector. you could always have someone here buy you a new keyboard if you got the computer.
-
If i purchased a new m17x keyboard it comes with the lighting, its not attached the laptop itself?
-
yea it will be on the keyboard
-
I presume it is not hard to install? and there is most likely a guide on the stickys on alienware.com?
-
or may be the sticky here... or AW site..... not you unscrew like 5 screws then unplug then plug in the new screw back
-
Well before i make the mistake of buying it and it not being the keyboard. Are you guys 100% sure it would be the keyboard if it is only the keyboard. obviously you cant be 100% sure and it seems obvious it is the keyboard..if its only the keyboard. But yeah..unscrew a few things..do i need any tools to connect it besides plug in and pull out stuff?
sorry for dumb questions just like to make sure -
Actually..there are no screws that you need to remove, here is the guide i found on alienware, seems a bit temperamental with the ribbons. mainly because the extent of my computer building prowess is adding RAM.

sorry for double post...damn i suck -
Most likely it is the keyboard. It'd be an odd ocurrence for it not to be.

Hi Clauss, if the system was originally ordered with illuminated keyboard factory installed, you are able to replace it using the following guide from
our knowledge base- http://4help.alienware.com/cgi-bin/alienware.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=5653&p_created=1194008229&p_sid=k1zaJExj&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MTEsMTEmcF9wcm9kcz0mcF9jYXRzPSZwX3B2PSZwX2N2PSZwX3NjZl9mYXFzKmM9JnBfcGFnZT0xJnBfc2VhcmNoX3RleHQ9bTE3eCBrZXlib2FyZA**&p_li=&p_topview=1
Before replacing it, check your system for the keyboard Alien FX cable. Also try to run the lights on the keyboard from the Alien FX software via Command Center.
Good luck! Enjoy your system!
Warrantys can NEVER be transfered, right?
