Okay long story short Vista screwed itself over (again) on my machine and I used a bootable Linux USB drive to get the error logs to try and fix it...it didn't help and I still had to format but anyway.
While I was in Linux I found the partition that contains AlienRespawn. I can't see it at all in Windows. I was wondering if there was any way I could recover it seeming as the partition is still there.

i know "acronis true image" kicks for everything your after.
it will show you the 2 partitions and if you wanted you can get rid of the respawn and make the hard drive bigger OR copy what ever data is on there.
its a very good program even clones hard drives. -

You can use a program called Gparted and burn it to a cd. Then you boot from the cd and use the Gparted program to select the AlienRespawn partition as the one you are going to boot off of. Then restart your pc with the cd removed and it should boot the AlienRespawn partition

Sorry I should have explained: I'm looking for a way to get it to work again in a way that it asks me to hit F-whatever key it was before it starts booting the OS, rather than actually booting into it, if you see what I mean.

you have deleted the re-spawn but the partition is still there ? is this what you mean ?
OR
does it now show when loading the laptop "press F10 for alien respawn" and gives you like 5 seconds to do this ? -
No, ever since I formatted the hard drive for the first time it never gave me the option again. The partition with AlienRespawn on it is still there, intact, not deleted.
-
ok so your saying the partition is still there but you cannot find the re-spawn ?
-
I know what you mean. After the bios screen you want it to still ask you if you want to use alienRespawn and if not it continues to boot the OS. I don't know how to get it to work again. The only way i got it working was to recover from that partition and then it works again.

formats tend to delete everything, i had this problem once. -
He is correct that is the only way to do it since you mbr is screwed up now
Bott into the partition and restore then the option will be back -
On a similar note, has anyone tried reinstalling the factory image onto a new hard drive via the Respawn cd? Would this install the AlienRespawn partition onto the new hard drive as well and give you the option during boot (hit F10 before 5 secs etc) ?
Asking because I'm planning on switching to a SSD and am hoping to have the hard drive be identical to the one I'm replacing as it came from the factory, AlienRespawn partitions and all -
I reckon it's a bit of a waste of (expensive) space having the respawn partition on the SSD. Is using the Respawn CD exactly the same as using the partition? If so, I presume I can remove the respawn partition from the HDD - or would this upset the system? Would I still see the 'Press F10...' message?
Way to recover AlienRespawn from partition?
